are my clownfish paired??

I have had my two clownfish for about a year. My question is if their paired. When I introduced my second clown he got beat up for 2 weeks after that their really is no fighting.i got them about the same size and one is bigger then the other now. My clowns don't really swim together or sleep in the same spot. Their sometimes together for a few second the go different ways and when when I'm cleaning the tank or there scared they stay together.

I read a good writeup awhile back where poster indicated that if they are paired, you won't see the male leave the females side. He/she said that the male should be scared if the female isn't around.

If that is the case, then mind aren't paired either. She beats him up and they sleep together, but he will swim around in the tank on his own. Actually he loves to hand out with my purple firefish. My wife keeps saying that he is cheating on his wife with the firefish.
