Are nuvo 16's still cracking?

since anything could happen at any time, to alleviate concerns about the tank being around equipment and such, maybe think about how you would minimize the damage from tank failure. Even with the best of tanks, there could be an earthquake/tornado/child with a broom handle/cat/dog, etc that could knock a tank over. Plan where you would put the tank and how you could protect everything else around it.

Not to minimize that the tanks cracking is awful - I can only imagine how upset people are, especially if the manufacturer isn't being very helpful!

I keep seeing nuvo breaking/cracking after having power heads installed. I'm going to take precaution and just upgrade my return pump to a much larger cobalt and let the return pump take the role of the powerhead.

I was fixing to setup my 16 on my PC desk since it would perfect and I already have a 5g pico on it until I started researching more on the self destruct mode that these tanks have. Yea a 16 g bomb next to my 2900 dollar laptop....ain't happenin lol

I ordered a section of aluminum channel that I will affix to the top rim of the tank and secure it with 3m Marine 5200 sealant . This will not prevent the tank from cracking but it should keep the glass from spreading apart very far. Thus minimizing the flow of water out of the tank and into the catch basin I constructed. I also ordered an ALD module and probe for the Apex controller to sound an alarm and email me if it detects water in the catch basin.

That is a nice safety net you have, but it is crazy that we feel like we need them. That is not how a product should perform.

I'm looking at nano reefs now as I'm hoping to get back into the hobby after 3 or so years out... I can't believe manufacturers are still having these problems...

I say still, because JBJ had the same problems with their 12 & 24 gallon cubes maybe 8 years ago... Amazing that another company is having the same issue on a very similar tank...

Shame on them. Guess I'll have to come back into the hobby with a custom starfire cube ;-)

Or you could get a Coralife Biocube :)

Wow man... really... nice work though, that's what I call insurance!

To each there own. I'll take my chances without all that. For me whats the point if you have to build 2 tanks to contain it. If your that concerned, I would think you would prefer to just sell it?

my nuvo 16 cracked top to bottom a few weeks ago while sitting empty in an unoccupied room. no help at all from innovative marine because I have no receipt. very sad. :(
