Are You Prepared?

My current preparation for power outage is to stir the tanks with a big spoon. Wish me luck should we ever lose power on the north side.

That would do the trick, but your arms will wear out in pretty short order. Before the generator, I carried buckets of water from my basement sump up to my display in the living room. That's the day I went out and bought an inverter, the generator came soon after.

I was doing the dishes last night and I hear this really loud alarm noise go off. I almost hit the ceiling and threw the dish I was cleaning. As the alarm is going off I am trying to figure where is is coming from so I can KILL IT! While I am walking threw the house the noise stays at the same level like it is following me. Look down. It's my phone. My new iPhone decided to give me a heart attack to warn me about this dust storm which really didn't do anything except blow some leave around.

With a I Phone you can turn off the storm alerts

Settings>notifications>alerts

I keep a couple of half gallon jugs of RO/DI in the freezer for "just in case". You can put it in the sump to help cool when things get hot. RO/DI in case it leaks. I've had one leak before.

Genius to have RODI ice blocks on hand!!

I'm laughing out loud at the wooden spoon and also curious clockwise or counterclockwise ... LOL :))

Guys, I should be ashamed to say-but honestly, since losing my entire tank last year to the monsoons, I haven't don't anything except set up a dedicated breaker for the fish equip (I know this isn't life saving, but it was a start) and vowed to never leave home again. Lol.

When funds allow I'm still looking to invest in the power back ups everyone suggested post crash. I like the propane generator idea for all around family needs and fish too in case of outages.

Ps friends--insurance never did cover my loss....just sharing in case anyone believes their tank (minus fish) are covered under the policy. I tried saying my tank was my "home entertainment center" (afterall that is the only thing we usually watch) and it was my "fine art collection, just doesn't look like Mona Lisa". No go.

Note that these are in half gallon water containers. RO/DI in case the container should spring a leak. You don't want chlorinated tap water getting into your system should that happen. I don't claim this to be my brainchild idea but I don't recal whose thread I found it in to give them proper credit for it.

I did see a back up generator at Costco this past weekend that can use LP or natural gas. It was a permanent fixture and not one of the mobile units
