Well Tucson, Im never satisfied. I have a thing for wide, shallow tanks. Ive been in love with my 24x24x12, absolutely in love. The dimensions are perfect, I gave it a custom external overflow etc. etc.

Then it happened...
During one of my frequent trips to the city up north, I saw the next love of my life; a starphire 48x20x11...sleek black silicone...shallowy sexiness, and that clear, invisible starphire glass. I wanted it. BUT it wasn't for sale..:angry fire:

Fast forward about 6 months later I find out its for sale. It was mine. Took a drive up loaded it into my car and home we went.

So enough with all that non-sense, This is the build thread.

Plans are:
  • Remove Center Overflow
  • Cut out 2 external overflows
  • Drill 4 Returns
  • Build Stand, About 42" Or So Tall

I plan on getting this done ASAP so stay tuned, and thanks for taking your time reading

Comments, suggestions, critiques, experiences, ideas, etc. etc. are mandatory :p

It reminds me of this tank: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1823130&highlight=volcano Are you going to make it biotope specific, or favorite corals and fish tank? GSPs on the entire bare bottom (except rock work etc) would be SICK!!!

that tank is ridiculously awesome, I would love to have that tank. I haven't completely decided what I'm going to do or how I'm going to place rocks, I have a few ideas..but not 100% its probably going to end up being lame and uninspiring haha jk

Nice, congrats on the new baby Aron!!!

Thanks Brett! :D

Looks like a fun project :)
Definitely Gary so far it has been.

What kind of lights are going over this??

Victor Im an LED man, haha although my current tank is LED/T5...
Im either going to do that again, or maybe 2 150 watt halides and about 36 Blue LEDs.. But its still up in the air. I might just do 3 LED pendants..

A Big thank you goes out to my P.I.C. ( Partner in Crime) itsMateo, Izzy11, and googlecoral for all the help with the stand.

So far since getting this tank Ive had a "Tank Drilling Party" and a "Stand Building Party" haha Lots of Pizza, beer, and laughter went into this project

Yep - I think the drill bit needs more water and less on Mateo :lmao:

No, I closed my eyes and pretended he wasn't there. haha
We used a dremel with a diamond wheel to cut out the glass. Im going to silicone a strip of black egg crate to keep the fish from taking a trip into my overflow. I think it would be too hard to cut teeth.
