Here's something intersesting on Dr. Roy's website...
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/aquarius/signals.html

Also on the website, they talk about what a mantis' vision...If I'm not mistaken, when someone posts a 'help I gotta mantis' thread, some people say to look at night with a red light-how can this possibly work at all?! If a mantis can even see infra-red, how would red light help at all? Just wondering...

It WON'T work at all with a mantis. It helps you find nocturnal crabs, pods, etc. but a mantis will see you coming from a mile away.

Not all stomatopods have color vision. In fact, as far as we know, squilloids, bathysquilloids and eurysquilloids have monochromatic vision that probably does not extend much into the red. Many of these species are nocturnal.
