ASM G2 Protien Skimmer

You will be amazed and shocked on how dirty you tank is,when you see the gunk the ASM will pull!!! hold your nose or blame it on your husband!!!

Thank you everyone. My skimmer was on my front door step when I got home today. Unfortunately, I do not have a tank to put it in yet. I was hoping to find a used 29 gallon tank, but I haven't had any success with that.

Here's my Final Plea: Does anyone (preferably local) have a used 29 gallon tank looking for a new home? I would love to pick it up ASAP if you do.

Thank You!!

Sherry :p

Your goint to love that skimmer! I know i do!! If you raise the outlet tube up with an extenstion about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch higher, its will scream and completely remove all the gunk from you tank!

The mod is very easy, all i did was get a piece of pvc pipe that fit in the original exhaust pipe and made it long ( higher ) so that it would raise my water level is all.

I have a bunch small tanks sitting around. I will go out and se if there are any 29s left. Give me a call I may have something that will work.

Okay everyone, I went to the store and bought a brand new 29 gallon tank last night. Then I spent the rest of the night setting everything up.

Can anyone explain the gray pipe with the sponge on it. All my instructions say are put the pipe at this level for initial start up. That's great, but then what? And why am I hearing so much noise from that thing? Nothing is touching and vibrating on the glass, it's not the pumps. Does anyone no what it is and how I can make it quiet?? I almost think it is the bubbles it is making.

Any help you can give me is appreciated.

Thanks,

Sherry

the pump really isnt that loud, cover up your air hose and see if the noise goes away and you can determine if it is the bubbles causing that noise or the pump... you will have to wait a few days before you actually set your skimmers height because it will need to break in.. when it starts making dark foam you can ajust it so the foam pushes itself over the side into the cup. you should get very dark scum but if you can see through it, your setting is too wet. good luck

Your saying I should leave the pipe at the initial start-up level recommended by the company until I start seeing dark scum, then adjust it?

yes leave the pipe low to start for maybe 3-7 days, to build up a slim coat. then adjust it to where you want it (dry or wet).
if you make it to high (water level) then it will overflow when it does breakin.

the noise is most likely the air intake to the pump. its best to put the end of it in the collection cup. this cuts down on the noise and keeps the venturi from clogging.

what I did with my G 3 is to go to the hardware store and purchase : 1 Tee, 1 elbow, 1 gate valve. and about 2 foot of pipe. (all 1.25")Put the Tee on the top of the exaust pipe so the rwo straight ends are verticle. then connect the gate valve to the horz. end of the tee then the elbow to the other end of the valve facing down. put a 8" piece of pipe ot the elbow going down.. Now you will be able to adjust your skimmer much easier by closing the gate valve. the more you close it the higher the water level will rise.

That picture is for the Gate Valve for a G3 or bigger. A G2 is shorter and you can not do the gate valve mod that way. I did mine a little different that the way that ASMSkimmers has it shown, but it's been working great for 6 months now.

The gate valve mod makes it MUCH easier to adjust the skimmer (fine tune) and it eliminates the water noise of the water exiting the riser tube and falling back into the sump.

The water level in the Sump should be about 6-10", with 8" being best.

Hope this helps!
