asm or euro reef skimmer?

its your call i would personally just get the rs80 for that application. i think overall thats a better skimmer than the rs100 if you can handle the heighth

ER is a much better skimmer than ASM. Better built, better performing and better supported. I'd get the RS80 promo for $180.

I agree with sjm817, the ER is much better built...I have had a ASM G1-x, G2 and a G3, the quality and performance isn't what it used to be

im getting a G3 for my 90 gal .....

i like the ASM's a little better

I'm just curious, how can you like the ASM (imitation) over the original EuroReef? I know why people buy ASM skimmers, and why they became popular, and it was because of the price, but ASM shot up in price and EuroReefs went down in price which in my opinion defeats the purpose. Anyway i have owned both and the construction of the ER is 300% better than the ASM.

Agreed with the above. For the money you might was well get the ER. It performs better, built better, and oh yeah .... Will get a better resell value.

The ASM in my opinion is built very poorly. Don't be surprised if it starts to leak on you. :)

ok look at the two
the ASM G3 has a 6.5"chamber and 25" in height
with a sedra 5000 for its use

the ER 80 has a 5" chamber and 22" in height
with a sedra 3500

and not to mention price the ASM is olny $10 more and it has a bigger pump and reaction chamber ....

your choice . ill stick with the ASM

I know someone with an ASM that is very quiet. I just got my RS135 euro reef set up and it is loud, it must need to be modded or something, unless it needs time to wear in.

Exactly like dhnguyen said, that is not a fair comparison, the RS80 is much smaller, now you want to try and compare that to a G1? if you're determined to not spend the money on a ER or simply can't, that is understandable, but i really wouldn't spend my money on an ASM, they are poorly built. It's hard to get an unbiased opinion in this hobby, most people only recommend what they have and in their eyes that is "the best of the best" even if it's garbage anyway I'm not by any means Pro-EuroReef, but they are nice skimmers and over the years they have become more reasonably priced. The Octopus skimmers seem to be a big hit now. They're built better than the ASM skimmers and their prices aren't insulting, at least the NW200 seems to be a deal.

Also This would be a better comparison between the ER and ASM

ER
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...OD&Product_Code=EURO-RS135&Category_Code=EURO

ASM
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...en=PROD&Product_Code=ASM-G3&Category_Code=ASM

ok you want to compair them two ..
the ASM is alot cheper to buy ... from 259 to 359 .. it looks the sale and will mostlikly perform the same .....

all your doing is paying for the name

ASM doesn't make a good skimmer for the price, ER is much better company with infinitely better products. ASM used to be the go to skimmer when Reef Octopus wasn't around and the ASM was still cheap, but they raised their prices. I can't think of a single reason why anyone would purchase a ASM when there are much better options available. The NW-200 would kick butt on a 40 and its $209, hard to beat a 8" body and 24" height on a 40 gallon tank.
