this suprises me, i wonder if it's just an octopus group tonight?? does anyone know how much water the skimmer has to be summerged in?

I have to say though, it seems like you're already made up your mind about the ASM based on your response above. If that's the case why even bother asking people what we think?

because i prob will not get the asm now.. if u look that was early in the convo... i respect people's opinions

so now people have convinced me to get either the DAS or octopus, and im also looking at getting a re-circulating skimmer now also. is the Re-circulating that much better?

i have an asm g2 and for the first skimmer i have ever had it worked flawlessly.once tuned in it always produced skimmate.i have never messed with the rest of the skimmers you were talking about but i would like to one day bump up to a g4x or maybe even a bk if i can get the money for it

The G2 isnt bad, the problem is, the NW150 is BETTER, and much cheaper.

Seriously, dont waste your money on ASM. Theyre the worst performer in their price range, and the most expensive skimmer in their performance range. Theyre also built poorly, and leak.

When ASM was half the price of everyone else, they were a good deal. Theyre not anymore.

Are you aware that the NW150's are now shipping with a weaker pump? They are not anywhere near the skimmer they once were. The Chinese did a bait and switch.

I have an ASM G3. It is recirc modded, Gate valve modded and I even have an ER modified Sedra 500 running it. It works very well. It took a lot of work and extra $$$ to get it to this point. Having said that I have seen an RO NW200 is action, I believe that my (hot rodded ) G3 Would still fall short.

Bottom line get the Octopus.

Do you know the wattage on these weaker pumps now being sold with the NW-150?

Theyre STILL better skimmers than the G2.

Seriously, if the pump worries you, go out an buy a GenX2400 or something. You'll still have a cheaper, better built, better performing skimmer than a G2.

As to the DAS, theyre nice, but a EX-1 can't compete with a NW150 IMO. Theyre just too small.

the DAS is well tuned out of the box. it may not be as large or inject more air, but IMO it's a better skimmer and performs better.

the benefit of the NW150 is future modifications. but without heavy modifications i dont think the nw150 can compete... fwiw, this is based off of my experience with 200.

i personally like to tinker, but to basically create an entire new skimmer is not worth my time because it will look like arse when im done. i'd rather buy it and be done with it.

jmo.

this is true, id rather buy it, maybe spend a little extra and just be done with it

for a 72 gallon tank an ex-1 would be fine, an ex-2 is not needed.
A DAS ex-1 would be a much better skimmer than an octpus nw150, the nw150 is non-recirc and its pump is not nearly as good, even with the old pump it is still not as good as a DAS ex-1, bigger or not.
