Anyone having trouble finding a place to purchase one of these skimmers? I placed an order for an ASM G3 two weeks ago from asmskimmer.com and it still has not been shipped. Just curious if the demand for these is high and is effecting other retailers...

I got my G3 on ebay, theres a seller there called Tsunami Aquatic who also sells them on a website. The skimmer was shipped from the USA to Canada by USPS right away and arrived in about a weeks time.

Great skimmer, took about 3 days to break in and now it pulls a lot of crap out each day. I'll see about posting some pictures later.

Should I get a MaxiJet 1200 for my G3's recirculation mod's water intake? It's about 280gph.

Or should I get something smaller?

this is for a 150gallon system.

I would definitely use the MJ900. a lot less watts too.

I use a MJ900 on my G4 and it works great, almost too much water.

I got mine from reefgeek.com. Shipped out the same day I ordered and GREAT customer service.

I've had problems in the past from asmskimmer.com and late shipping. (Rob) is good guy but sometimes takes a way too long to ship.

I think the best place to get them from is http://www.saltycritter.com/skimmers-asm.htm
they will match any online pricing too. thats where I got mine from and received it in 3 days from the time I called and ordered over the phone. I'm only 3 hours from them though. looks like they are doing free shipping right now too.

I was cleaning my pump and I broke the ceramic shaft. I was looking online to purchase a new shaft but they look different from mine. The shaft I have found for Sedra 3500 have a straight smooth shaft. Mine has a piece on the end that fits within the impeller. Should this piece come off? If it doesnt do I need to puchase an entire new impeller. Here's what mine looks like.

If I do the gate valve Mod of my g3 does it matter what depth water the skimmer sets in? Also is the recirculating mod worth doing. Jim

I bought my ASM G4X from asmskimmer and had them do the recirc mod as well as the feed mod and the drain in the cup and I also am running it with the gate valve mod. I ran it for about 8 hours in the bathtub with hot water. And now have it running in my sump with a bunch of old (live rock) that isn't alive anymore with a new piece of live rock trying to seed the old stuff. It was pulling a light tea color skinmate after about 6 hours. That thing is a monster! I'll try to post some pictures later.

my skimmer g-4 has been running since friday night and no skimmate yet!@! there are bubbles up the riser but nothng in collection cup!!

Did you clean it out first? I was suprised at how much junk was in it after running it in hot water. Where do you have the water level set to? I am skimming pretty wet to get it broken in.

I am planning on having a 12 in depth in my 75 gallon sump. I have the G3 and am going to do the recir and gate valve mods. Do I need to raise the skimmer up 4 inches on eggcrate or does it matter with the gate valve mod. Jim

Quick question about the recirc mod
I have two overflow drains....Do I just put one drain into the skimmer or do I have to join the two drains into one and plug it into the skimmer?

The recic mod isn't the same as the feed mod. As far as the overflow to the skimmer, you would probablly only want one going to the skimmer because of the amount of flow. Too much and the skimmer doesn't have time to get all the crap out of the water. I am using a Maxijet 1200 to feed the skimmer right now. I may use water coming from my overflow later and just put a ball valve to adjust the flow. The recir mod is where the sedra attaches both ends into the skimmer, instead of just one inlet. HTH.

as you can see the water level is high and no skimmate!! what is going on, is it set wrong or what?

I can't tell where the water line is, but did you try raising the riser tube a little?

judging by the second pic it doesnt look like the skimmer is runnig properly the bubbles should fill up almost the entire body
yours only looks about half way up

try unpluging it and pluggin it back in a time or 2
