Indy1: I'm not sure......but they do make PVC street 45s ......you need to get them at a plumbing supply house.......I dont think that home depot will carry them......I have a G3....it has just enough room to do it......I may even have to cut the T and 45s down a bit to do it

I just looked in my skimmer to see how much room there is in it.........If I use a T that goes from 1" in to 3/4" out on both ends and then street 45s I can do it.....I also went on Euro Reefs website to look at there new skimmers.......They are useing 45s but only on multi pump models with one 45 per pump....I will let you know when I do the mod......and how it works

trmiv, I had the same problem. I fixed it by changing the setup of the gate vavle. I have the gate vavle first then the 90. I tried the 90 first, but my water level would change on me like yours is.

Mine goes 90>side of Tee>gate valve on bottom of tee. then of course a length of PVC on the top of the T.

I have a G3 with the Sedra 5000. Everytime I shut the pump down and restart it, the impeller doesn't turn properly. So I have to put my finger over the suction of the pump until the impeller engages. I have noticed that its getting harder for the impeller to engage each time I start it up. Has anyone else had this problem? I was going to buy a new impeller, but wanted to see if anyone else might know what is causing this. I have taken the pump apart and cleaned it, and could see nothing out of the ordinary.

FINS369: have you tried to soak the impeller assembly in vinigar.....If it's binding up at all a good soaking will free it up

I think that I am going to just leave the T in place on my G3.....it seems to work better than with a 45

anybody have a pic of the parts needed to make a 5000 instead of a 3500 work on a g2, the 1" to 3/4" ? also can you make it work , mounting the pump, vertical (standard) as oppposed to horizontal? also how are you guys mounting the elbow inside the the skimmer?

thanks

Here are a few shots of my G3.. Recirc'd with direct overflow and gatevalve mods. I have a valve attached to the skimmer to control my input... Also some pics of how I plumbed it.....

The collection cup was cleaned only a few hours ago... There is a lot more fine tuning now, and I think this thing is really going to do an even better job than it has been.....

I was going to put a sedra 9000 on this also just to take it to the next level, but now I am not sure that I will need too.. hehehehe....

Another pic.. This if how I have the drain water T-ed to allow me to use a valve with the skimmer input....

Messed it up in my original pic posting I see....

If some one has a clear view of the modification kit attached to their skimmer please PM me a picture of it. It's hard to visualize on the skimmer and some of the photos in the thread are obstructed.

Make sure you take the pump apart and inspect for anything that may have been sucked in. My new 5000 suddenly would not restart after only 2 weeks. I took it apart and found what appeared to be white teflon tape in between the shaft and the bushing. Not sure if it originally came on it and finally bound up, or if it got into my system somewhere and sucked into the impeller. If the impeller can spin on the shaft (out of the pump) then it should be fine.

On the other hand, I had an older 3500 start having that problem after a year. Turned out the impeller had gone bad and had rubbed the inner pump wall at one end. I had never cleaned it and it of course eventually failed. Lesson learned, now clean my pump impellers every other month in vinegar.

to mount my 5000 to my G2, I used the standard sweep from the pump, then jammed a short piece of clear vinyl tubing into the sweep. I had originally shortened the pipe coming out of the skimmer body (another mod experiment). The other end of the vinyl tube simply slipped onto the pipe and acts as a flexible reducer.

i just did the recirc mod, but i used schedule 40 for the pvc pipe from the output. do you think switching to thinwall would make a big difference?

Well i tried putting a "T" inside the skimmer.I thought that it reduced bubbles and made the skimmer more turblent inside.may work better if your using the recirc mod. After having mine for a year, i think the only real good mod is the deltec and a air filter.

i am going to order a ASM G3 for my sps tank in total with sump, refuge and tank it is about 60g is there any reason for me to do any of the modification like the gate valve and the recirculating mod thanks for the info.
