clkwrk: I am feeding with the Rio 800, about 200GPH. I am running it on a 90 G with an approximately 200lbs of live rock. 10 or so fish/and a variety of coral.
I will lower the riser tube as suggested and go from there....at this point I am a little sceptical but will hold tight.....

Why is it that some people can skim green and some skim tea color. Weather you skim wet or dry there is a mix what color people get. I always get the tea colored if I skim dry I get dark tea color. Why are some getting that green blue skimate. It can't be additives. I am so overstocked with fish and coral and I can't get green.

For me its injection rate not amount of o3.
What I mean is I use an adjustable airpump that feeds my o3 unit and I have it dialed back . If I raise it too much then my skimmer gets more o3 saturated air than fresh air. Which in that case it affects my skimmer.
More of a tinkering deal .

I've found that it greatly depends on the concentration of surface-skimmed water introduced to the skimmer. When a skimmer is in an open sump with water rushing by I've seen the skimmate very light in color. Whereas when the skimmer sits in a smaller contained area where the overflow water remains in suspension longer for the skimmer to grab, I've noticed the skimmate to be heavier and darker. If you can, try to place an additional partition following your skimmer to keep the overflow water exposed longer.

Well kids, it's been a slice but I'm dropping out for a while. I've banished my G2 from the sump to the fish closet and slapped an Aqua-C EV180 in it's place. Found one used for a good price and decided to experiment.
Overall I think the ASM skimmers are a good value, and with a little more attention to the precision of the fittings I think you could have a damn near flawless needlewheel skimmer.
But damn, all skimmers are too expensive for what you get...

is this an older version? it was sold as an asm g2?

Might be a very early version ASM or even a copy, though it looks too short to be a G2. ASM skimmers are now all clear acrylic and don't have any gray PVC except for the exit tube.<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=6836488#post6836488 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by brandon0350

I think you can buy Eheim needlewheel pump from finsreef, but it is pretty costly..
They want $300 for the Eheim 1260 (w/needlewheel) or $150 just for the needlewheel :eek2: Just because something is "German" is no excuse to rake people over the coals.

OK I have a G4+ and it's been running for about 3months now. My problem is I have never got good skim out of it. I just cleaned it after about 2weeks and only had maybe a 1/4 inch in the cup. In the pic the red line is the height if the small bubbles and the green it the foam that breaks away and raises to the top. Should I crank the water up the tube a bit more? I had a G2 on my old 72 bow and it was great but for some reason I just can't get this to work right 
A few posts I have seen say run the water in the tube about 1 inch from the top of the tube but I never ran my G2 like that? Thanks for any help you may have.

I've had my G3 up for about 2 months now with great results..
But over the past 2 weeks it has been going crazy -I did not add any additives or do anything differently.
It will just start overflowing like mad for no reason. Then I can set the top of the foam very low and it will not skim anything for awhile and all of a sudden go crazy and overflow like mad...I cannot just set it and leave it anymore.
Has this happened to anyone else? I am going to take it apart and clean it, especially the pump, but its only 2 months old, so I am not hopeful that that is the problem...any other ideas?
