Hi all - I have been running my G2 for going on 2 months now with poor results. I took apart the pump and cleaned the airline tubing last night with no noticable difference.

It just doesn't produce. I have raise the water level very high for it do anything. I added a gate mod this weekend hoping help me tweak it, but the dang thing just doesn't produce! I feed daily, however only have to clowns. My bioload isn't high, however being a 2 month old tank there should be plenty of junk to skim. I currently set the small - large bubble line about 1/4 the way up the riser.

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Josh, you say it's not producing, have you tried raising the bubbles in riser higher up like half way to 3/4. So you skim wet or dry just raise it or have you done that already. I would think if a person isn't getting production they would keep raising the bubbles in riser till it works. Raise it and report back!!!!

Lion - I have played with it for weeks now....raising it and lowering it. When I raise it, I get almost clear skimmate. The riser tube is getting caked with gunk, just never ends up in the cup.

Hey Josh, Well I looked at you gallery and it appears your reef is very young? What is your Bio-load. How many fish, how many corals, do you feed? Any supplements that might hinder you skimmer from working?

ok..ill ask again..if i buy a G5 with 2 sedra 9000's do i need to do the recirc mod to both pumps?

You can pretty much do what ever you want to do.....you can recir one and use the other to feed

Bill and Elaine, I thought youwere cleaning your G3 over the weekend and you were going to give us a clearer pick of your gate valve mod? What is the exact reason you Moded it differently than the way asmskimmer.com shows? Thanks

rpeeples...a buddy and i built my tank. he used to own a small custom tank business here in raleigh. its for sale if you are interested. it does have a small leak which will be repaired when the tank comes down in the next few weeks. the dimensions are 96x36x24.

BILL AND ELAINE, is this a better gate valve mod??????

Lionfan: I tried it that way......its not as good as having the tee right off of the skimmer....put your tee where you 90 is and the 90 where the tee is....then you will be all set.......trust me it will work much better..........sorry on pics yet.....but if you do what I just said to do.....it will be set up like mine

I tried it like Bill and Elaine mentions and it seemed to put too much back pressure on the skimmer because it would always overflow the cup. Now I have it where the gate valve is first, to the t.

I added a 9000 to my g4x and have it recirculating. It is working great. One feeds and one re-circulates. Will post pictures sometime.

Please help...Skimmer Gone Crazy

Please help...Skimmer Gone Crazy

I have noticed the last few days that my ASM skimmer has been making a waterfall noise from the sponge. I took a peak at it today and the collection cup is overflowing! The bubbles are just running over like crazy and the water is flowing too much. I turned it off, emptyed it and put it back on and it filed like 1/4 of the way up in 5 minutes. Anyone know what my problelm is? The pump looks like it is in there just fine. Thanks!

Bill and Elaine, if I put the T right on skimmer the top will be opened, won't water shoot out?

Lionfan,
Zigzag fan has a picture of the mod set up like Bill and Elaine are talking about on page 29. If the T comes off of the gray tube you might need a longer piece of pvc that extends up to about the level of the collection cup:)

Also from page 31 unless I am missing something.

I guess I must have a pretty old G3 (purchased in 2004), because the pump inlet on the skimmer isn't a piece of pipe in a uniseal, but a piece of gray plastic glued right to the skimmer body.

From the sound of it though, I got lucky, since I have hardly any problems with the pump popping off the side of the skimmer... it did it a couple times when I first got it, but then I pushed the pump on really tight and haven't had any problems since then.

You got lucky. I had to wrap teflon tape around that piece on my old skimmer. I recently drilled it out and replaced it with a 1 inch uni seal.

Ignore the white pvc in the ghetto hole that I made. It was before I found out about uniseals. You can see that I had to use the heavy duty pink teflon tape. My tube was entirely loose. I would post pictures of the new mods but I don't have any re-sizing software here at work.

BILL AND ELAINE, Now how does this look!! Look at 2 nd photo as well and let me know if the last piece is in the water enough or should it be deeper. I guess it's about 3 inches under but appears fine. Thanks for any info. here's the latest mod.

Not trying to answer for them but, bingo. I think the pvc is plenty far but not too far.

Bottom line:

How is it working?
