Thanks Tang, Charlie.
By adding the 90's, do you want them going in the same direction to form a 180 or oppisite? Would a uniseal be tight enough for the feed pump?

Thanks,

Todd

Does anyone have a parts list for what is needed for the gate valve mod? I have a G1X in my sump, but I don't have a lot of space. I just want to see if it'll fit. Also, would I be able to find all of the parts at Lowes or Home Depot? Thanks.

go to the asm site & click on modifications, it tells you what size & ho much is needed. You will need to order online for the gate valve & uniseals as HD/Lowes doesn't carry them.

with regards to the water level around a recir g3 with feed pump.... what matters is the air sucking into the pump aka the venturi right?

using a G3 in my stand it will barely fit and i didnt want to only have 10 inches of water around my skimmer or less ( i want about 13-15 inches of water around the skimmer).... because it would lower the overall amount of water for the system... what about takeing a pvc pipe with an endcap poking a hole through the endcap and sticking the venturi though that and siliconing the hole in the endcap....

OK my explanation sucks but then you can lower the water level ONLY AROUND THE VENTURI ITSELF...... thoughts?

Not much to add except I am one of the family now. Recently purchased a G3, so recent it is now here yet. I'm out of town all next week so I'll get to see it week after next. Already have the parts to do the recirc and gate valve mods.

Cheers
John

I used some underwater epoxy in my tank last week and my G2 went crazy and it's still going crazy.

A half hour after I used the epoxy, I went downstairs and the collection cup was overflowing. I've got the gate valve open almost all the way now. I also have tons of microbubbles that my baffles reduce, but don't eliminate.

This is kind of OT, but asmskimmer.com shows what looks like a nice, flexible 1" ID hose instead of 1" ID vinyl tubing. What is that stuff and where can you get it?

I finally upgraded my G2 with a GenX 2400 and like others i am now a satisfied owner. It's putting out much more dry skim then it ever has before, what a difference. I'm sure i'll get some stinky dark skim now.
Thanks to all those that have posted info about this.

I recommend anyone with a G2 to do the upgrade as IMO the sedra 3500 is just way underpowered. The needlewheel, ceramic rod, volute, all swapped nicely. The only parts you would need is a 3/4"slip to 1/2"threaded elbow and a small threaded sprinkler riser tube.

Greg10, I hope someone have a better answer for you( but during the time being)-- I can buy the hose at Home depot- with-out the nice ends, I can buy short pieces of the hose with ends at most LFS.

to those interested-- this weekend, I put a gen-x n/w 6000 as a feed pump--on my g4x (r/c with sedra 9000)... it greatly increased the output of the skimmer. And has a head of bubbles like a deltec!!
But, IMHO, it is a little too much as a feed pump, so I may try my gen-x 2400 or my OR3700 on it instead. (I want to wait at least a week)

I have a G3 with the recirc mod and what a pain in the butt to get it into position and running. Any secrets for fastening the pump body to the skimmer body?? Seems as if I touch it, the PVC comes out of the Uniseals. If I don't get this skimmer functional soon, it's going up for sale and my MR-2 takes the stage!! Arrrggghhh!!

Yeh, uniseals are crap! Mine leak terrible!! I have been thinking about a way to make better connections. I may have to attach some (large)acrylic pieces over the holes and make a more solid mount for pumps (I thought about cutting 3"squares of 1/4 acy- heating them to match body curves)

Maybe I'm missing something but why the problem with the pump.

Drill the height of the hole so the recir pump sits on the sump floor and below the existing hole and then no strain on the uniseals. For the feed pump a threaded fitting is suggested.

If you could wrap a strap arond the body of the skimmer and the pump, it would help keep everything in place. Sort of like a Victoria Secret Bra and a 65 year old woman type of thing.

Das75, do your fittings come loose when you remove the collection cup?? Maybe it's just me, but everything on my recirc mod seems loose.

greg10, alot of people have leaks at the uniseals, its really not a problem if you have your skimmer in slump(some, don't even know they have one). do the r/c mod! you will be happy! I love it!
if you "play" around with skimmers as much as I do-- then uniseals leak!
