in the same boat with the mini should i upgrade it to a genx1400 or 2400 to get my skimmer body full of bubbles and push my foam into my collection cup Need some help here guys!

Powertang, if I remember right, you are using a very undersized skimmer for your tank..?? btw, 2400 is 2 much for mini!

well its a 40g its rated for it but performance is just now what i was expecting from a ASM so should i just upgrade my minis pump or get a g1x? with recir mod and valve gate?

I just quit your stupid club and joined a real club. Euro Reef club here I come. I hated my ASM. My RC500 did in the first 2 days what my ASM did in a week.

ok, so here's the deal. I have a G-3 and I cant get it to skim like i think it should. I have tried all different water levels, cleaned it, and everything i can think of to get this thing to produce dark skimmate. Ive had it for about 3-4 months now and it started to produce it once for a very short period this entire time. I have this on a 55 thats pretty heavily stocked with 6 fish. Listed below. So my question is. is it possible that since this is rated for a 250 gallon system that there just isnt any skimmate in the water to skim? Would the recirc mod help? I have the gate valve mod on there only im using a ball valve. Help me please, i feel i wasted a lot of money on this thing.

Stacy, is your water clear? are you fish and coral healthy? maybe the skimmer is a little oversized sized for you tank, so it does not have to work hard to filter the water. you didn't waste your money, I believe asms do best when skimming wet (not as dark skimmate)
BTW, I highly recommed doing the r/c mod. (on any make skimmer)

I am planning on upgrading to a 120 with a 30 gallon sump/refugium. I am wondering if the ASM G3 with the recirc mod and gate valve will be enough skimmer for this setup. It will be primarily an SPS setup. Or would the G4 plus be a much better option should I ever decide to go with a larger tank?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Skidclan, If it was me g4+ or x if you have room.
BTW, those that are thinking about upgrading pump using Gen-x pumps. Due to the design of the n/w, they are louder! not the pump itself but the air line is very much louder. I believe its because they move more air ---and in doing so make more bubbles. They make finer bubbles (which is better IMHO)
