ASM Skimmer Club!

Beach bum, I am unsure of the dimenisions- they only sedra I owned was the 9000. When I first got my G4, and it only had the 1 hole in it, I put a genx 1600 on it. The hole in the skimmer was too low, but I sawed off 3/8 of the PVC ellbow and it fit fine. I also had to make a bushing to make pump discharge fit 1" PVC ell. So yes! you are correct in worring about the dimenisions of the pumps..
I do not believe they would overpower a G3, I have used a 900 gph n/w pump on a few skimmers that were much smaller (old becketts)
One guy on this forum said he put a genx4100 on his G2 and it was working great!! (look back a few pages) Maybe you can PM him and asK a few questions. I have found that most people here are very willing to help out. If you do- Please post so that we will know.
One thing I did forget to tell you-- the OR and the Genx have a different design then sedra, on the n/w. Its because of this that they make much finer bubbles (very good thing):) also because if this they have a loud noise from the air line (not so good) :( Sound like you could vacuum your carpet with them :lol2: Silencers can be made, and I have 2 that were given me, that were "mass produced" but I do not know who sells them..
BTW, nice zoa's!!

Hey, if you want too. Give me measurements, from slump floor (were skimmer pumps rests) to the center of both pipes. Monday when I get back to my tank, I will check to see if they are the same as my sedra 9000 r/c and I will let you know..
I gone to the "Riva" have a good weekend..

Purchase my ASM G4x, it is going to be here and installed next week.....also being installed is my kent marine phosban reactor, and my blueline calcium reactor....cant wait....Ive only heard good things about the ASM.....heard its a monster....been reading everyones remarks on them and makes me even more excited.

I have started a 180g with 75g sump & 20g refug, no fish or corals as it is cycling with half my existing tank water. Less than 24hrs it was pulling gunk. In 5 days I dumped the collection container and rinsed it in the sink. I have never smelled the crap after it was dumped from my seaclone. This time it linger for 2 hrs. I am running the G3 with recirc & gate mods

You mentioned upgrades. I agreed! Better pumps? Genx 4100, Sedra 900, OR 3700 !

Or maybe one of the new Ehein NW pumps...

Does anyone know if it would be okay to use a 1" GV on a G2 instead of the 1 1/4" GV.

You should be fine with that configuration, you will just have to reduce the 1.25 inch plumbing down to 1 inch before the gate valve.

oh guys.. I guess I can get help from here.....

I'm trying to find out what cause my air intake not stable. It's jumping up and down .. (I'm using the Dwyer Air Meter)

My ASM G3 went nuts the other day and got the wall and floor wet. Nothing touched the tank and nothing was sprayed in the air, it just went all Courtney Love on me.

So, do you think it would help to drill a hole in the side of the cup near the top to have it drain back to the sump in case it decides to go nuts again?

Also, does a recirculation ASM go nuts like the standard ones?

Is anyone feeding their G3 directly from their overflow if so state your opinions and if you have a pic please post it.

How does the B&E style gate valve mod work?

I have an ASM G3 and want to do the gate valve mod. What pieces would I need? What size PVC and pieces do i need?

Thanks

I did, I have 3/4" flex pvc with a ball valve feeding at 500gph. It works fine for me.

You can see the feed line underneath the gate

Is this too big?

Is this too big?

I have a 75 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump and 10 gallon fuge. I recently purchased a G3 for this set-up. I love it! That thing is a monster compared to my silly little Sea-clone.

Anyway, I was wondering if the G3 is just too big for a 75. Is it possible to have too much skimming?

I keep zoos and shrooms along with fish. I've also got 110 lbs of live rock. I've had the G3 running for three days and i can visually see a difference in water clarity.

I know that zoos and shrooms like it dirty. Will this stunt their growth?

Maybe i'm posting this in the wrong forum. If so, let me know where it would be better to post.

Thanks ahead of time. ASM Skimmers rock!!!

skimmers overflow every so often, to me that is like asking if it would be a good idea to remove the overflows from your RR tank and install a overflow box with U tubes. sure not a problem as long as you own a shop vac

uhh, I am stupid. that post was in response to a question about external gX. sorry......
while I am here, I believe that you can over skim. it is a loaded question and you will get about 20 different answers. but I thing that a g3 on a 75 is perfect. four g3's on a 75 and i think you are over skimming.

I just changed my G4 to being direct feed from overflow. So far I love it. I am having none of the problems others have reported in controling the skimmer. (I have a gate valve mod)
Ehiem n/w pumps! Forsale where?

Charlie...you suggested I change my skimmer from overflow feed to direct feed and here you go changing to overflow feed! Tisk tisk. Anywho...since changing mine FROM overflow feed TO direct feed it has done wonders. I get a full cup in about 4 days. I have it fed by a MJ600. Anyone drill their collection cup yet? I don't have any special bits but I can slowly increase it to the right size needed to tap it.

Glad it worked out! (you must have been having problems for me to suggest changing your feed) This is my first time trying (direct feed) because I have heard of so may people having problems.
Update, I have only been direct feeding for 3 days now.. everything I read leads me to believe this is the best method for skimming. but skimmate production has gone down..
I may have too much turbulance in skimmer body because of to much flow (gph)??
