uscgbeachbum, You will get ALOT better skimmate with direct feed!! ( but everyone I know has problems maintaining a constant level inside the skimmer when they did this)
I have my return line as close to "feed pump" as possible, this really helps also.
As for getting alot skimmate out of your tank---I will get blasted on this, but here goes---You have a g3 r/c on @70g of water. I would call that just a little oversized (thats not a bad thing) and IMHO you have done the "right thing". The g3 cup is alot bigger than many of the skimmers people use on systems of that size. And IMHO the r/c skimmate is more condensed.
a few years ago, I put a ($200) n/w skimmer on a system I had running for years with a ($600) ETTS 800 , Man that n/w skimmer was kicking butt!! After some time I figgured out, that -- all that meant was---- my water was VERY dirty....
My G4x does an Awsome job keeping my water clear. fish are happy, I can now keep corals that used to die, Clams look alot better. and it looks as thought I have less skimmate then I used to have.
Maybe my water is just alot cleaner, and there is less organics to pull out

(due to proper skimmer)
How does you water look??

Are you (and your critters) happy?
