I have seen it done but your gonna want to do a leak test and seal it before running it on your tank.....if yoiu read back in the thread there are a few people running them external succesfuly
 
Sorry for the repeat. I am going to leak test my skimmer when it comes in. I'll read back and se what others said about external.

could you post some pics so we can see how your system is working out and what exactly you did to the skimmer!
 
On a G4 if you silicone the cone to the body can you still get your hand in it (after you remove the collection cup) to clean the body? What's the diameter of the top of the cone?
 
Once you get it and take it out of the box you'll see that you don't want to run it externally...

THat is of course dependant on how large your hands are.
Mine barely fit in my G3/
 
I got a G4X last week, and have been waiting on uniseal to mod -(recir). I had also been thinking about using my OR3700 to feed, since I believe the OR makes finer bubbles-and- the G4x can handle the extra load. Your thoughts people?
 
I also forgot to ask-- I plan to install drain on collection cup. Were would you install drain line ? (i.e. at bottom of cup or 1/2" up side) Why?
 
I am really not being smart@ss, but what are you saying really works? Vodka, or just plan getting rid of nitrate factories (bio-balls, pads, etc) and getting a good skimmer?
( I still use sponges, very now and then. but keep them clean)
 
For you externally recir'd modified, how did you push the 1" pvc pipe through the uniseal, the best I could do was half way onto the rubber, even hammered hard. I don't really want to hang my pump loosely, since I will be moving it for service from time to time and don't want the whole thing to fall apart and cause flood.
 
I have a stock G3 right now, I want to stop by HD on the way home to pick up parts for the recirc mod. What size pipe do I need to go from the pump to the original seal? Thanks. Also, anyone know what the outlet size is on a maxijet 900 for the feed pump?
 
Parvo99, I all the info I needed on asmskimmers.com I know this is not exactly what you asked for, but hope it helps :) --- BTW, the website is good but does not clearly give info. so you may need to hop around inside it!
 
What kind of hole saw should I use to drill the holes for recirc mod? I have some of those white ones... but the teeth are HUGE!

Please name type, any specification numbers, and maybe a brand you used!
