man that would be a hell of twist off, because I tried and tried and the cone won't budge.

I think the cone twists off the opposite way of the cup...if I recall.

I just semi-ghetto set my G2 up for recirc w/ direct feed from the display. I couldn't find any uniseals locally and I didn't feel like ordering online, so I used regular old bulkheads. There was a gap where the bulkhead doesn't seat to a cylinder, but I took care of that with a healthy amount of silicone.

I believe you could stop the Mississippi if you use enough silicone... and mabey some duct tape. :D

SpG sensitivity?

SpG sensitivity?

How sensitive are these skimmers to SpG? I recently raised my from 1.023 to closer 1.026 and all the sudden the thing is a foam machine? Is this just a fluke or have others noticed it?

FOAMING SKIMMER

FOAMING SKIMMER

WELL A SIMPLE WATER CHANGE OR ADDITION OF WATER FROM A NEW CORAL WILL CAUSE MOST ALL SKIMMERS TO GET A LITTLE CRAZY WITH FOAM AND USUALLY OVERFLOW SO NO ITS NORMAL IF YOU ADDED FREASH SALT MIX TO YOUR TANK-SHOULD GO WAY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.
GOOD LUCK.
AND JUST SOME INFO. , I HAVE BEEN RUNNING A G4-PLUS FOR SOME TIME NOW WITH DECENT RESULT AND DECIDED TO TRY THE RECIRC. MOD. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ALMOST ANYONE WHO HAS THE ABILITY AND THE SPACE FOR THE MOD. ITS AS GOOD AS A DELTEC FOR A FRACTION OF THE MONEY IMHO.

you can use the same pump! asmskimmer.com look under mods. BTW, I suggest extending the discharge a little inside the skimmer body, then adding a 45. aimed sideways and maybe alittle downward. this causes the water to "spin" around the skimmer instead of being blasted across the body.

Every few days, I clean my cup and throat with a baby bottle brush. once a month (or 3), remove and clean with warm water and my hand. Have you installed a drain on your cup?

is there any other place (ie lowes or pluming store) to get the 1" uniseals? i dont want to wait for shipping

I have a question concerning fluctuating flow rates when feeding in my case a g3 directly from the overflow. I have the gate valve like this gate>T>elbow. Would using the T>gate>elbow configuration keep the water level in the skimmer more stable. Curious if anyone else has had problems with this. Basically a small fluctuation up or down in flow affects the level in the skimmer. And it fluctuates pretty much constantly. So essentially I just cant dial it in. Thought I would ask before I put my hands in there again.

Has anyone ever tried to drill the collection cup on an ASM skimmer for a drain. Its not polycarbonate so im afraid that it will crack. What fittings would I need to make it leak proof? Would 1/4" airline tubing work? Thanks alot

I have drilled a whole bunch of them. We use a very sharp "stepped bit", then we tap the hole and place a 1/2 fitting in there. I would stay away from a 1/2 in line, it is too narrow.

I will warn you , the material the cup is made of is very hard and can crack, be careful!

The thing I dont get, is why would you want the cup to drain? I would think that this cause you to clean the cup less often.

I let my G2 go a month (while just emptying it) before I took a toothbrush to the neck of it to remove the scunge. I have noticed, since I scrubbed it, that skimmate production has increased about 4X. I will now be dumping and quickly scrubbing once a week!
