Well its because Im converting my tank to a FOWLR and I am going to get messy fish like puffers ans such, and I dont know if you red my thread that I made but I will be using sugar, it creates bacteria that breaks down phosphates and nitrates yes thats nitrates. It makes the skimmer skim like crazy and it allows me to go along time without water changes ( actually I never have to do one again if I didnt want to) It will fill often and I dont constantley have to unplug it and empty it. :)

what about replenishing the elements in the water that just about everything needs to live? are you using supplements

RTBM, I have heard of several other people (some with different skimmers) that have had the same problem, I have not heard of a solution yet.. :( I feed my r/c skimmers with a separtate pump.

Im thinking Im gonna do a double sedra 5000 recirc on my g4!! has anyone done this? I picked up a g4 instead of the g4+ so I am thinking instead of replacing the pump with a sed9000 Ill just buy another 5000 and do a double recirc and feed the skimmer with a maxi jet 1200....any thoughts?

charlie,

so its not a matter of gate valve tinkering. If anyone comes up with anything be sure to post about it.

I drilled a drain line in mine with a step bit. No problem at all . If you look in my gallery, you can see the drain line on the right side of my collection cup. I am no professional craftsmen by any means. It was really easy!

Sedra5000 not working

Sedra5000 not working

Has anyone had any issues with their sedra5000?
I've had my G3 for about 3-4 months now and my pump had just decided to stop working? I've disconnected it and inspected all parts but nothing points to its not working.
I've pulled it out of my sump and plugged it in and nothing happens.
I've tried to contact ASM, but no ones home.

I have a question concerning fluctuating flow rates when feeding in my case a g3 directly from the overflow. I have the gate valve like this gate>T>elbow. Would using the T>gate>elbow configuration keep the water level in the skimmer more stable. Curious if anyone else has had problems with this. Basically a small fluctuation up or down in flow affects the level in the skimmer. And it fluctuates pretty much constantly. So essentially I just cant dial it in. Thought I would ask before I put my hands in there again.
I was having the same problem with mine. I ended up just using a MJ900 as a feed pump and no more worries or over fills.

OK, I just got an ASM G1X today. Thank God they came to their senses and decided to drop the prices back down. After all the price increases, I started leaning towards a Euro-reef. But I digress. A couple of quick questions. Do you guys leave the rubber suction cups on the bottom of the sedra? I'm guessing it would cut down on vibration, but it seems like the tube that connects the sedra to the skimmer body sits up then. In other words, if I have the suction cups on it seems like the skimmer body doesn't lay flat on my sump bottom. Has anyone else had that problem? Should I get rid of them? Also, now I know why people use the gate valve mod. What a pain in the rear it is to move the return up and down to adjust it. I haven't set up the skimmer yet, so I don't know how much I'm gonna have to move it, but it seems like a huge pain. I'm probably gonna have to turn it off just to adjust it. I'm not sure if I'll have room for the gate valve mod. If I think that I might, I'm surely going to do that after I get it up and running for a little bit. Any tips and tricks I should know before starting this thing up? How high or low should I have the return? Thanks.

On a side note, this thing, luckily, wasn't as big as I was expecting :)

Have a G2 and its doing well. Been running it for about a month and still getting microbubbles in the display tank. How long does it take for them to go away? Also the seal that the riser tube connects to is not sealed. It is not connected to the skimmer body. When I adjust it I take the tube out and slide the ring up or down then reseat on the skimmer. What could I use to glue it back on? I would prefer something that would work underwater. Would rather not be without the skimmer for a couple of days.

bump....on my ?

Charlie,

No I havent changed the gate configuration, In fact that was really my question from the start. Whether or not this would help. To recap, going from gate>t>elbow to T>gate>elbow. To maybe help stabalize water height from direct feed.
Has anyone done this with better results?

Tigerarmy, if it was me, I would buy a 9000 then sell the 5000. 1 pump is less trouble IMO. rtbm, I knew that was your ?, but figgured, that you will try it. guess I was wrong :( (maybe you glued your fittings and can not)
