I joined the club! Now the wait for my G3 w/ gate valve mod to come in! For those of you who have a G3 w/ gate valve mod, can you please chime in and tell me how small of a space you have yours in? Will it fit in a 13"x13" area? I need to know for sure. I'm trying to get my sump plans ready for my tank builder and I need this info!

To be honest I have my gatevalved g3 in a 20 long sump. It definitely fits in a 12xsomething space... but i think 12x14 would be the safe bet. The sedra really is quite large and contributes the most to the overall footprint.

Ah ok. So the 14" of space would be for the combined length of the skimmer housing plus the sedra?

I have the G3 as well. 12x14 unless you want the pump touching the glass and making extra noise.

heres my G6, in front of my tank stand....

I am doing a full recirc mod on this so that I can raise it above the waqter in my sump. The 3 sedras produce a lot of heat I can do without during the summer. In winter it will go back in the sump. It will sit on a tray above the sump, so any leaks will go back into the water, not on the floor.

I guess I am newbie here as I just got ASM G3 from my friend...
Just want to ask people who knows ASM best...

How much could this recirc mod would improve G3 skimmer?

I have a lifereefVS3-30 with mazzie on total 200gallon (including sump water) with SPS fully stocked.

If ASM G3 with recirc could bit my lifereef I am thinking to move my lifereef to total 150gallon with LPS fully stocked setup... if not I will put ASM G3 on LPS tank...

Also is this recirc mod easy to do? (I will buy mod kit from ASM but so sure if I should send it to ASM to do it)

I did the gate mod onmy g6 where should I set the water level?I just fired it up tonight..yupppie

keep the water (bubbles) just below the neck of the riser tube for the skimer cup for a couple days and let the skimmer break in. Then you can play with it,I have mine on the wet side about 1/4---1/2 way up the skimmer cup tube
