Im confused on something. I have a G3 and was looking into a new pump for my sump. I was going to go with an Eheim 1250 which would give me about 260 gph overflow. Does the g3 prefer a certain rate of flow?
The G3 will not mind the flow through your sump. The thing that the G3 will mind if there is some fluctuation in the sump level, that is no bueno. (it likes 6-8 inches of water). The eheim pumps are awesome pumps by the way!!!
ASMskimmer said 6-10inches, so I went with 10 as I'm trying to get as much volume as I can in my sump. Not skimming much yet, but then again I don't have any critters in the tank yet.
I got a Mag7 with the tank when I bought it (used). Too noisy.
MJAnderson, are you feeding directly to skimmer? If so, then return pump does matter.. (have you replaced bushings in your mag7 ? LFS should have them)
Yes it is, but you should wait, and read (then read more, then more) G3 is a very good skimmer. someone must have led you in the right direction. ( or you read it )
I just installed my new G3 with recir and gate mod. I didn't read this post until I put it in. So I didn't put it in fresh water to let it break it first. I am not getting any skimmate right now. Is it normal? and how long you think it is going to take in order to get it running right?
everyones tank is different , so "break in " times will be different. Set your skimmer so that water level is just at "throat" /" Riser" I have seen some take 3-4 days.. others over night..
Quick question for everyone....My tank has been setup for about 3 months now and my ASM G3 skimmer has been working great. But I did a 25% water change a few days ago and ever since, my skimmer will just fill the cup with water no matter what height I set the tube at. Any suggestions??
Hmmm...problem. I upgraded pumps and such in order to have as quiet a setup as possible. My skimmer is the loudest thing in my system. The gurgling noise coming from the air tube is loud enough to be heard upstairs. I emailed Rob at ASMSkimmer.com and he said there is nothing I can do. The noise is unacceptable for my living room. Has anyone found a soultion?
You can make a noise muffer: short piece of pvc pipe (1-1/4" 3" long, fill with poly filter media, cap both ends. drill small holes both ends, just big enought to put air line in one of them.
Thanks Charlie. Do you just velcro/tape it to the side of the skimmer?
Do you drill multiple holes in one end and just the air line in the other end or can it get enough air with just 1 hole (besided the air line hole that is)?
