Assessor randalli

A couple of weeks ago I made a rare find: a single Assessor randalli.

Here a video of it in one of my QTs:

That's kind of my plan with him - he goes into the tank with my yellow Assessor pair.

I haven't seen him for a while, but that's nothing unusual with these guys, especially not in a tank that has more cave than open space.
I also suspect that he and the yellow ORA captive bred one have paired up and are spawning. At least, the yellow one always looks gravid when it comes out for food. With my wild Yellow Assessors the male is not to be seen for periods of time. This would mirror the breeding behavior of Marine Bettas.

Cool, hope you find another one. My Marine Beta I only see a couple time a month is most and for a few seconds. He/she definitely get bigger since in DT for a few years

Get a second one and you will see them all the time. My Marine Bettas are out frequently, especially during feedings.

honestly for at long at I have my I have not seen him eat once. I put him in my DT out of panick because of not eating after 2 weeks in QT and then he/ she disappear for 3 months. I was already considered casualty but then appear in the rocks work one evening

Got 2 more on Saturday. These last 2 are bigger than my first and I might keep them on their own as I've never managed to keep trios to get along. One always got killed of by the other two once they paired up and started spawning.

How do you suggest adding the second one?

It depends on the one you already have.
If it is a small one I would add a bigger one.
If it's a large one it gets a bit trickier because then it's best to get the matching partner.

when you say matching partner, you mean size wise? My current is about 5 inches head to tail. good weight. So I should try one as similar in size to that? thanks for your time.

No, male or female. At 5 inches it should still be female.

180 is more than enough for a pair.
You can sex them best by their genital papilla. The ones of females are rounded like a well-worn pencil tip while the ones of males are more pointy like a newly sharpened pencil tip.
