astaxanthan powder

Hello all,
any one know any source for astaxanthan powder ? some say I can buy it from drug stores ??!! any Idea what name it would be under ? or at least which section of store I should look for such thing ?

You can buy it in some health food stores. I don't know about pharmacies
Problem with heath food products is that they are not regulated so you don't know about quality or percentages of products sold.
Ask your pharmacist for Asta zan thin but my guess is that it would be a similar to the heath food store product and not a "regulated" product like a medicine.

Some use it for maximizing colours in their fish but I believe it also works to enhance the health and well-being of the fish.
Personally, I have Dan's Feed from seahorsesource.com that has Astaxanthan in it but much more.
From Dan's site:
Dans Feed is a blend of AlgaMac 3050, AlgaMac Protein Plus, Spirulina, Astaxanthin, Withania somnifera, Mucuna pruriens. Well balance nutrionally with amino acids, vitamins, minerals, proteins, Omega 3 fatty acids with a very high DHA to EPA ratio. Also contains Ayurvedic herbs to increase resistance to disease without risk of antibiotic resistance, increase food conversion ratios, reduce stress, and in sexual mature seahorses, help induce spawning.
It comes with and without Beta Glucan as you don't want to use the Beta Glucan all the time.
You mix this powder in a blender and feed the artemia/mysis to enrich them so the seahorses get the full benefit.

got it sounds like good product . algamac 3050 is the only way to get s/h to eat this to feed it live mysis ? can you soak thawed and rinsed frozen mysis in t ?

I don't see much benefit from soaking frozen foods in it and it would be detrimental to the water quality of the tank as most of what adheres to the frozen food would wash off when placed in the tank.
What is your aversion to enrichment of live food?

no aversion just hard to find live feed locally. when i do its ghost shrimp . i suppose i could feed it to the ghost shrimp for a day or two before feeding them .

Im going to feed it to brine shrimp and feed the seahorses and other fish, to see the effect of this. [color and immune system]

I feed my seahorses from a plate, so Im gonna try to soak some mysis in it as well, and see how well that goes, as I have trained my ponies to eat the frozen mysis sitting on that dish ... so can probably get a bit more in them this way rather than mysis moving around and getting washed. we'll see how it goes
