Astrea snails at the waterline

Hi,
Last night I added Florida Astrea snails to my 40G and 29G tanks. They were carefully acclimated, and I left the lights off yesterday.

Both tanks are fairly new -- the 29 has been up for about 2-1/2 months, the 40 G about 2 months.

Tonight at least 50% of the Astreas are on the glass (good), but just hanging out near the waterline, and not moving (bad).

NH3 and NO2 are both zero in both tanks.

Are they unhappy, or is this expected behavior?

Thx,

The only time I've had a large amount of astraea's head to the waters edge all at once it was for a spawning event. This has happened atleast several times that I've witnessed.

After finding no fewer than TWELVE of them congregating around the suction cup of a powerhead, I was sure that it was some kind of kinky snail rubber scene.

Now they've dispersed....although two of them are still convinced that they're air-breathers.

Cheers,
-R
