Atlanta Tap Water -- Who knew?

Well, i just got my Typhoon III RO/DI. I had been using LFS water and when desparate, ran tap water through the $30 DI "Tap Water Filter". So, i tested the tap water with the TDS meter that came with the TIII. Only 37! So, then i tested the water from the $30 and --- 0! Unless i am missing something, this sounds pretty good. Dont have the heart to return the TIII, i have been wanting it for sooooo long (and had to tell a beige lie to put something that big in the basement bathroom)...

Tap water can vary from season to season depending on rains, changing or blending of sources and treatment techniques. An RO/DI is a good investment just from the standpoint that your water will always be the same so you can establish a baseline. How many times have we all had an algae outbreak or unexplained death? Now you have eliminated one of those possibilities by providing the same good quality water every time.

i would hook up the DI unit to run with the r/o unit. that way you dont waist the di unit right away. do this. first check the tds of the water going into the ro unit. then after the ro unit. then comming out of the di unit when its hooked to the ro unit. you will find that the ro unit takes out a ton of stuff before it reaches the di unit. most ro units wont remove some trace elments. thats where the di comes in. dont get rid of the ro unit what ever you do. also did you let the ro unit run for 3-4 hrs befoer testing the water? you have to flush out the preservitive out of the ro membrane. or it will polute the water. it shows up on your tds meter if you dont flush all of it out.

Yes, but use the ro/di, i've seen the sediment filter from one after 4 or 5 months.. . that's all it takes to convince oneself that Ro/di is the way to go.
Mine in Buford from Gwinnett county supply is 33 tds at tap. I'm just up the road.

and WElcome to ReefCentral. Have you joined atlantareefclub yet?
