Atlantic Blue Tang?

We had one for over 2 yrs and got him as a juvenile. Ours was a perfect tank mate and had no issues with clowns, 6 lines, gobies or any inverts. Swam the tank along side all of them and slept in the same crevice the 6 line did. It might have had an issue with a like species but we didn't have any in there to comment on. It was hand fed easily and was the first to the front went someone came near the tank.
He had started changing colors and losing the rest of his yellow when he dissapeared one night. Looked everywhere and think he might have jumped and become a "Dog" treat while we were sleeping.
Miss the fish and would have gotten another but wife found a Chevron to replace him.

Here is a pic when we first had gotten him and was in qt tank.

My brother had a 3-4" one that was an absolute wuss. They are pretty tame from what I have seen. He now has one the size of a chromis, and it is calm as well. I don't know how they are when they are older 8" plus but I have seen them in a public aquarium and they were bigger then a dinner plate, huge! I think they are a great fish, how big is your yellow tang? They are from a different genus then yellow tangs, so I don't think there will be too much of a problem.

My Yellow is probably a good 5-6" but in an 8' tank with multiple hiding places I think they should be able to work it out.

I expect the yellow to loose his mind for a day or so then mellow out.

If I get him today I plan on putting him in my 75g for a month or so to get him eatting and calm from the move. And when I move him in it will be at night in the dark on a Friday night so I'll be home all weekend to observe them.

I read in all my books that they are peaceful but I also hear on the above post they can be killers. I think alot may depend on the tank size they have to live in.

A fish that may be mellow in a 200g may be out of control in a 55g.

Time will tell.

I don't know if you are at your fish load limit but what I like to do is add 3 fish at a time in my 150g. Spreads the aggression out in 3 fish instead of one being the target.

Like with any fish.... it's a crap-shoot!! Most tangs (like triggers) can be a model citizen or they can be/become a nightmare!!!

My Atl. blue tangs were in a 240g then a 260g. Like most tangs, they need a tank at least 6ft long :) 8ft works a LOT better.....

I do hope to get anotherone at some point. However I will wait untill I get something larger...... 300g+

Well I picked him up as he is about 7" and a big fat fellow. Looks great and the guy gave me a great deal on him. He is resting in a 75g till I get him calmed down and eating again and relaxed then once I watch him for a week or two I'll move him into his new 240g. Pics to follow hopefully tonight.

I have one, along with a blue hippo, 2 humbugs, 2 oc. clowns 1 blue damsel a snowflake eel and a peacock flounder.. i have no problems at all. one big happy family .. they all even get along with the skunk shrimp.

beautiful...he is a fat fellow at that. looks like you could almost lip him lol. cant wait till mine gets that big. and all blue.. just started to change from yellow to blue.... best of luck to yea..

My atlatic blue tang is very well behaved he is still a juvenile yet just darkening up, as a mater of fact he still has a yellow tail. Any way he is in with a flame angel, a copperband butterfly, 5 chromis, a sailfin tang, and an eel with no probs

I like mine.... Bought him about ten years ago at about three inches.
He is about six inches after all these years in the same 150 gallon reef. He has always been peaceful, often chasing the magnet cleaner around when I clean the glass. I added four anthias about five months ago that require mysis shrimp. NOW he comes alive! May be my imagination, but I think he may be a bit more aggressive since eating the shrimp. At any rate, I think they are great fish, but like anything else, I'm sure someone has one that's a real jerk
