Here is my phyto, rotifer and BBS setup.

I have been using a siphon tube to pull the rotifers out. There is not enough room to stick your in hand to scoop them out.

Maybe I could set something up by Friday for them to scoop instead of siphon.

Thanks for the idea

I just finished going through your thread... very inspiring. I have a pair of Tomato clowns that I would love to see lay eggs, but it has never happened unfortunately.

Really amazing work and really "cute" pictures.

I think you'll soon run out of space in the basement, and start installing tanks on the ground floor....just hope you have more floors to go on withi this...:)

Good luck

I do 33-50% of the top tank in the morning and 33% of the bottom in the evening when I have larvae. I don't really harvest when I don't need them, this brings the levels back up for when I get larvae again.

Where's all the Phyto? Are you using paste? I have 5 2L pop bottles culturing all the time. I split 2 on Wed and 3 on Sunday.

I have a bottle of DT's in the fridge for backup and I have a bottle of Kents Phytoplex as well.

I must feed alot more phyto than you do. And I only have 15 gallons total of Rotifer culture going.

I'm going to have to stop talking to you rkelman........JK

Every time I say something to you about something, that something goes wrong.

First the mis-bar - two days later I notice them on mine.
Now talking about Phyto. This new batch is running me a little thin.

Anyway

I have been loading my larvae tank with rots for 3 days now. I'm guessing they took a good hold on the tank as my water is clearing up between 3-5 hours of adding phyto. That is crazy. I don't think I can keep up with that type of phyto consumption. The problems with success I guess. I have not seen many deaths in the tank, although at this stage it is hard to tell. Maybe I can get a couple of hundred out of this batch. That would be nice.

I took your advice and placed the tanks in a manner that the fish sitter can scoop instead of siphon. I had her over about 1/2 hour ago to show her what to do. She dosen't think the rots will be a problem. Hopefully all goes well.

Lol. Ah now your getting the kind of Phyto consumption I'm getting. I dump it in at night and its clear by morning. I want my rotifers to be healthy for my larvae so I dump more phyto in. Its cool that you have a friend that will do that for you. Good luck.

Well I got home tonight and the sitter did a pretty good job. It's hard to tell how many I still have but it is enough, maybe 100.

All my all batchs are doing good and eating well.

I didn't put any bbs on all weekend so I started batch 1 tonight and will start batch 2 in the morning.

I'm going out of town for a few days and I'm going to be in the same situation. Trying to read a few pointers from you.

FB, glad to hear that things worked out.
rKelman, what do you mean by splitting? Do you a pic of your phyto cultures?
Barbara, I hope things go well for you too.

I'm not really to sure what my sitter did. Their was only about 2 inches out of my 2 litre phyto bottle. So I know she didn't use much of that.

I really just loaded the crap out of the tank with rotifers, I'm guessing their growth ratios outpaced what could be eaten.

Good luck.

Oh almost forgot.

I was able to witness another spawning around 5:00 this afternoon. The female was just huge this time and I'm hoping it is another big nest.

They should hatch next Wednesday.

UH OH! Running out of tanks and space.

I have found someone willing to sell me a pair of spawning clowns.

What is a fair price to pay for them?

EDIT: What is the likelyhood they will continue to spawn after being transfered!

They will probably stop spawning for a short while after transfer. But with good conditions and feeding, they should resume quickly if they are actively spawning now.

As for pricing, I'd say look at some of the online vendors like Foster's and Smith, etc, to find out what they are selling pairs for. That would be a good baseline, than figure confirmed aquarium spawning pairs are worth more.
