do you put the sponge in on day 1?

No, late day 3 or day 4.

My wife wanted me to setup a new display tank next to my other one with my baby clowns in it. She said they are to "cute" to be downstairs where no one can see them.

So last night I went out and bought a 10 gallon package that came with a hood and two lights, and a power filter. I personally like to have sand in my display tanks so I went to Lowes and picked up a package of play sand and added it to the tank. The tank is currently setup and running however it is still in the process of clearing the sandstorm. The lights are not very bright so I may change it to PC.

Can the sand cause problems to the juvenille clowns? Also would there be a reason why I couldn't put a couple of LPS or mushrooms in the tank with them just to give it some colour.

Thanks

If you go with the PC lights i don't see any problem putting some Lps, mushrooms in the tank also some nice live rock will be nice.
I will use the Power filter for just a carbon and circulations .
Wait some time for the sand to settle down some before you put your babies in there.
Keep up the good work

Only had about a 25% hatch last night. The rest were white. This frustrated me to no end. I thought I had enough bubble movement in the water I guess not. Well lets see if I can get most of them through.

The other batch is about 1 1/2 weeks and a couple have started their first stirpe. 40 - 50 of them I think

The five older ones are doing good and growing.

I was in a Big Al's and was talking to some people. The fish room manager over heard me and said he would buy 100% of what I could grow for $5.00/each. Not sure if this is fair or not but what I can't sell myself I guess I can give them to Big Al's.

That's not a bad price. Tank Raised clowns direct from ORA or some other breeder via a wholesaler would go for around $6 before shipping is factored in.

I know how you guys love pics so here you go

Here is their new home beside the parent tank.

Here is an overall update.

I currently have 5 at day 84.
One is still a lot smaller than the rest. There appears to be lots of battles going on trying to assert their dominance.

I have about 30 at day 17.
A couple do not have any stripes, most have 1 and a couple more have 2. They are eating bbs and my homemade frozen food (Talk about a feeding frenzy)

I have about 50 at day 6.
I decided to try another method again as my last batch started to have daily deaths after I added the sponge filter on day 3. Probably starved. So on day 6 I am still co-culturing rotifers with phyto and also feeding bbs. I still have no detectable ammonia and have not changed any water. I have been adding water to slowly bring the SG down. All of them appear to be doing very well. I'm hoping this batch will be the start of something good.

The clowns laid another batch of eggs on Wednesday.

I am actually having a lot of fun with this and am considering trying to get another mated pair of clowns. I don't really know what kind I should get. Is it best to get more percs and then they can all go in the same tanks. Or should I try another kind ... maybe marron or something.

I am starting to run out of room with my current setup.

2 X 10 gallon rotifer tanks
1 X 10 gallon baby clown display (Picture above)
1 X 10 gallon grow-out (currently empty)
2 X 5 gallon larvae tank (1 has the day 17 batch and the other has the day 6 batch.
1 X 10 gallon SW mixing tank
1 X 20 gallon sitting empty.

I am going to have to build a shelveing unit for them all. I orded 3 diamond tipped glass hole bits. I have plans on connecting 6 or 7 10 or 20 gallon growout tanks together. One of the tanks will have some live sand and maybe some rock with my Euro-reef RS135.

Anyway more on my plans later.

Looking good. I'm still co culturing on day 7. I'll probably stop tomorrow.

I'm going to keep at it until I start getting ammonia and see if it makes any difference in growth rates.

5$ Is too cheap.Ask 7...you will get it.The FS needs to make 200% profit to stay in biss. What ever they sell for....You charge 1/3 of that.24.99 translates to 8.00$ for the hatchery. Most whole sellers get 7.50-8.00$

FB I use a little fry basket that hangs on the side and put a rio 180 adjustable powerhead in it and point it at my fry still stuck to the rock and move the rock too were the fry get blew just anuff too rock them back and fourth. I never had any luck with air either. I lost a lot of fry that way also. then when all my fry turn lose i remove the basket and powerhead and add air

ok quick question I have about 65-70 small guys in a 5 gallon tank its about 40 days or so now when should I move them to the 30 gallon tank? also should I be cleaning there sponge filter out?

I would say you could move them now. Not really sure about the sponge filter.

A big set back this morning.

I was doing a water change this morning and added to much water to quickly. The 9 that I had left (day 21) hit the ground like they had been shot. I obviously didn't check the water well enough to match some parameter or I just added it too quickly. Only one survived.

This batch had not been doing well. They were not progressing like my first batch had. Everyday I was losing one or two. Their growth rates had almost stalled. Many of them were just sitting on the ground. I was feeding bbs in the morning @ 8:30 and at night around 6:30. I was also feeding my homemade food every other day to try and get them off the bbs. Anyone know what could cause the above to happen.

Water Quality?
To much food?
Not enough food?
Not enought nutrition?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

---------------------------------------------

My other batch (day 10) are doing well still co-culturing, their bellies are very full and still no traces of ammonia. I think I was getting ammonia earlier (Day 3-4) because I was adding way to much phyto which was fowling the water. Anyway I am feeding bbs at 8:30 am and 6:30 pm. Almost all have curled tails and some are starting to show some colour and the start of the first stripe. I would say I still have about 40 or 50. Crossing my fingers on these. Two more days and I will add a power filter with a sponge over the intake to reduce flow and the chance of one getting sucked up. I have also started to introduce my homemade food. They have not really had any response to it. Will try more tonight.

GOOOOOOO HABS!!
