Ocellaris

I offered him a trade

2 X juvenille clowns, BTA, Green Star Polyps and a 10-12 head Candycane coral.

I have yet to hear back!

Great thread and work! If you could breed Maroons that would be cool as they are a hard fish to pair.

I went back and looked and I can't find a mention of it.

I did buy a pair of Maroon Clowns back in April. The previous owner was not aware of any previous spawing and I have not seen them spawn yet.

I just picked up another spawning pair of beautiful ocellaris.

If I were selling them, I would certainly consider your generous trade offer!

I am picking up a 60 gallon system with 45 gallon sump this weekend.

The sump I will be using on my new 120 display.

I'm not to sure what to do with the 60 yet.

I'm a little nevous setting up my new 120. I have to move my spawning pair. I don't know if I should put them in my new 120 or move them to a tank in my basement and put the two maroon's in my 120 and hope the bigger tank will trigger a spawn. In any event I hope the move does not disrupte them for too long.

If you're willing to pay, you can get a pair of these:
http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?c=2733+3&ddid=41294

Wow $500.00

I think I would have to be getting an income from my current batch before doing something like that. My wife is already down my back with what I have spent so far. That would set her off. LOL

Plus getting them into Canada is not easy and requires special permits extra shipping possibility of them sitting at customs for two days. Not worth the hassle.

They're not a spawning pair either.
What else will be in the 120?
My percs spawning on the clam they host, they laid the eggs on the inside of the clam's shell. You can see the tile in the back gound of the last pic.
I've wanted to try and raise some fry since they finally started spawning. Once my friend told me he was moving and selling off everything, including his spawning pair of gold stripe maroons, I decided to go for it. I'm buying the pair from him, taking my 125 down, and setting up a couple broodstock tanks. I hope to be using some of the info I've gathered from this thread in the near future.
Thanks FB

That is too funny!!!

I'm not sure what I'm putting in the 120 except for SPS and lots of it. :D

I couldn't believe the clam put up with it. They spawned quite a few times on the outside of the clam shell. I plan on moving the clam with them into the brood tank but I'm worried they may not stop using it as a nest.

I noticed my display tank water was cooler than normal last week. I checked out my heater and it was set for 74 so I bumped it up to 80. My newest batch was not supposed to hatch until Wednesday I thought. Just by chance I walked by the tank on my way to bed and my anemone had decided to curl up for some reason. The second I looked at the tank I knew the eggs were ready. (you know me pulling them out a day ahead). I'm almost positive they are hatching tonight.

This batch was laid on the 20th. Could the temp really increase the time to hatch that much???

Anyway they are in a 5 gallon with rots and phyto waiting for their time, be it tonight or tomorrow.

I am in the process of transferring 49 (I counted) 4 week old clowns to a 10 gallon tank with 7 other clowns that are 2 weeks older. Hopefully this will be fine as I don't have any more heaters or plugs. I guess I HAVE to do something this weekend to expand my space. MY WIFE IS GOING TO KILL ME...... She just donsen't see the big picture

Well I had a 100% hatch last night.

I put a lot of rotifers in the tank they all seem to be eating.

The transfer went well and all were doing fine this morning.

When I left for work this morning I had hundreds swimming around in the tank. I fed rotifers and then left for work.

I think this might actually be the first hatch where I "think" I know what I am doing and will be able to go through the whole process myself. I am very optimistic and hopeful I can get 100+ this batch.

Hi guys,

I have started to see these in my growout tanks.

I believe they are Hydroid's. If I recall there was a mention of these in Wilkerson's book. I'll have to check that when I get home tonight.

Are they something I should worry about. Where are they coming from!! Is it possible they are mixed with the BBS eggs???

Thanks

FB

Looks like they are, she says in her book to siphon out the ones you can. Then when ready tp transfer the fry, use a 50 micrometer sieve to strain half the water into a new tank and transfer the babies, a tea cup at a time, making sure no hydroids come along.
She says that they probably come from the parents tank.
Good luck
