Thanks,

I currently have a MAG 9.5.

Current tanks are 7 10g, 1 25g and 1 40g. I might be able to get one more 40g on before I really kill the flow.

I really like the 10g tanks. They are cheap, easy to drill, and easy to move around and clean if need be.

My recommendation is to get the biggest pump you can afford. That way you don't need to upgrade later like I am. I am going to get a hammerhead or barracuda as I have a feeling with a couple pairs breeding this is going to get bigger quick.

Currenlty I have 3/4" feed and a 2" and 3" return. The 2" really couldn't handle the flow well, it did, but not great. So I upgraded the last 7' with 3" and added the 2" I started with to that using a coupler.

Wow that is allot of tanks for the one pump. The mag 9.5 is listed at Flow Rate: 950 GPH maximum flow with a 14` shut-off .
Power Consumption: 93 Watts :eek1: that's like having another 100 watt heater? I have never owned a mag but have heard around here that they tend to run hot have you noticed that?

sorry to hear about the gsm babies, with the tank packed full of rot's do you think there may have been an oxygen depletion issue? just a thought..

Just so everyone knows the batch that just hatched (and mostly died) were Occelaris. Not GSM's. My GSM's should be hatching this weekend.

I currently have 3 300W & 1 250W heaters (running 24/7) and can't get my temp above 79. So any heat the mag gives is more than appreciated. ;)

You are running 1150w for heat 24/7 i can see that you would not be worried about any heat the pump may be adding to the water. How cold does it get where your setup is?

Its hard to heat our tanks up here in our Igloo's :)

LOL

Yes Dazed it is very cool in my basement. My sump sits on my concrete floor and the temp on the floor is 63.4 and the air temp is 66-68. So I am trying to keep my temp 12-18 degrees higher than room temperature. Good thing we pay less than half the rate you do for electricity. 5.6 cent/kwh up to 1000kwh then 6.5 cents above that if I was paying 12-14 cents / kwh I'd go broke.

I have been reading about the toxicity of cyano on eggs and feel this is the most likely cause of my problems recently. I have had a hell of a time keeping cyano under control in my reef tank. In a thread over on MOFIB it has been said that cyano can cause an unexplained loss of life within the first 24 hours and any that survivor have little to no appetite despite tons of available food.

Link for your reference.

Occelaris Pair #3 laid down a batch of eggs. :D It is a pretty ugly nest but it is a start.

So now I have 3 pairs breeding :D

Occelaris Pair 1
Occelaris Pair 3
Gold Stripe Maroon Pair 1.

Come on
Occelaris Pair 2
Occelaris Pair 4
B&W Pair 1
Picasso Pair 1

You can do it.

So two pairs have started to breed in my new system, Not really sure what I have done to get them going but hopefully the others will follow suit soon.

Just a thought but what if you tried to use a piece of Styrofoam under the sump so that it is not setting directly on the concrete floor? Of course this may work against you in the summer time for cooling issues.

Congrats; on the pairs that are now breeding you are going to be up to your eyeballs in little ones in no time.

I sure wish i paid that for electricity everything in California is to expensive

I have mine sitting on a piece of plywood. I think it helps alot. Your electricity may be expensive but don't forget we pay alot for heating our houses.

I transfered the GSM eggs tonight. (Day 6). They look silver to me probably not as silver as my occlearis eggs. I have heard they develop quicker then Occelaris. If they have not hatched in the morning I will transfer them back to the parents. Hopefully this will go very well.

I don't know how many days GSM days need to hatch but I keep mine under an airstone for 2 days with no ill effects.

I can be so stupid sometimes.

Anyway I stuck my hand in the tank to pull the pot just to look at the eggs and the water was cold, very cold 64.1 to be exact. I had forgotten to plug the heater in. Anyway there were to larvae in the tank just stuffed with rotifers. I plugged the heater in and the temp is now back to 79.8. I noticed several more now moving around the tank. Not sure if they had hatched last night and were on the bottom in a coma or if they hatched after the temp went up. Not sure what affect the cold will have on the eggs in the tank but we shall see. Other than that is looks promising.

There is just so much going on we get busy and make stupid mistakes. I know the feeling. I'm still seriously thinking of a RKE for my system.

There are even more larvae in the tank although they are not stuffed with rotifers. They still have a lot of yolk sac left. Not sure exactly what is going on they are sitting at the bottom of the tank, springing up every once and a while. I pulled one and put it under the microscope and it is the yolk sac not rotifers, very orange. However I did notice that the eyes did not look very well developed and wonder if this is the reason they are sitting on the bottom of the tank.

I guess we shall see what they are up to in the morning.
