Hi, so since I have not heard anyone mention wanting to host for August, what if I do? August 19th around 1pm?

Everyone want to come to my new house???

Let me know if this sounds good to you. I'd really like to discuss making frag plugs so if anyone out there knows how to do that and could help show us, that would be great. I have some southdown sand to make them with and can get whatever other materials I need.

I live in West Knoxville still but now I live right near where Gallaher View and Westland meet (right around the corner from David Sease and pretty near Julie).

LMK if you guys are into this.
 
I've been waiting for you to volunteer your house!!! lol How well set up is your tank??? Still a work in progress??? Is your canopy on yet??? I think your house will work great... Someone else started a thread about an August meeting a week or so ago, but I think its moved its way out of viewing... 1 pm sound great!!! I'll be there if no one else will... We can rearrange your rock... lol So what to bring to eat??? Lots and lots of Meat??? I just got a side of pork last week... ;)
 
I too was hoping you would (once again, but this time with a new tank) host. With any luck over the next week, we can do a fish fry at my house in Sept.

I've not done it for frag plugs but the agro-crete diy rock mixture seems to be a common material used. I'd think a good mold would be a cut off 2 liter bottle with just enough to fill the "neck" of the bottle. I prefer smaller mounts than a 1" disk or something like that. Just a thought. There's probably dozens of other molds. Another idea - plunge a 2L bottle cap into sand to create a bunch of molds quickly
 
Don~ If you're going to the meeting I can bring your stuff there... You back from FL???

I have been waiting for you to have another meeting. I would be able to come and may be able to bring a couple guys from the chatt group. Can't wait to see the new house and more importantly the new tank!!

Just let us know what FOOD to bring!
 
Well I am really glad that everyone is excited about it.

That's great! I want everyone to be excited about going to each meeting, hah hah.

Randy: My tank is not entirely set up in that I do not yet have my canopy on top of the tank. It's my fault this time...Art and broken Larry made it for me almost two weeks ago and even dropped it off. I just have been swamped. I'm considering taking another week off from work so I can focus on getting it done. I'm going to get a skimmer very very soon, once I hopefully make a bit of money from the swap (if I don't make money from it, that's completely fine I will just break down and buy it anyways). So yeah...it still has the lights held up by a 2x4 and is pretty ghetto looking but it would give me incentive to get everything taken care of, ya know?

Don, I think Donny and I were talking about making some molds in a piece of wood. I was interested in making the little disk ones, not the actual plug-looking ones. So I think Donny said all you need to do is cut some flat depressions in wood. I would welcome help on this. Maybe Donny can lend a hand too.

Chris: that sucks! You can always come by whenever you want to though. It's no big deal.

Patrick: already on my mind! I have not decided what main thing to make yet. I will let you know soon!

Julie: you know you only live around the corner...just come on by. You don't mind seeing a bit of snail tracks on the back, huh? hah hah. It's covered with snail tracks but that's better than algae.

Quick question for you guys/gals... I really enjoy coming to the meetings in knoxville from time to time. Do you guys have a program where other club members can also join your club, but not hold office, etc... I know we have something like this setup with the Atlanta reef club and its like a 5$ a year type membership thing..

You know what? I am probably out for the entire month of August. I have my SIL's wedding in SC next weekend and the two following, I am shooting horse shows.

Think of me while you are enjoying Mel's AC and I am out in the heat and dirt
 
I feel so terrible for you Julie... :( Can't you hear the empathy in my voice... lol Which shows you shooting??? I know you said Stone Gate, but their next one is an unrated... But I think that might be this weekend... :uzi: Hijack!!!!
 
I am shooting both days of Noah's ark then the next weekend is Stone gate. I will be very tired of my camera by then!

Darryl said you talked to him and commented on Sorbet's feet, we laughed at your "I saw a horse of yours and she looks awful!"

But... She is looking a little better(well, sorta, her sole is convex vs concave, but, the wall is growing back)

Dang!!! That looks 100x better... I didn't say it looked awful... Well, maybe I did... lol But it was more of a, I'm glad I'm not in your shoes awful... ;) Nah Darryl's as good as they come... Glad your horse is doing better... I may swing by Stone Gate to grab lunch... Becky likes to feed me... :) We'll see...
 
Look at the amount of growth in just a couple of months. Thank goodness she does grow foot fast!

I've actually tried a bunch of different molds (wood, sand, rubber/silicon, pvc). It’s actually harder then it seems. One complication is the getting the right aragocrete consistency. You have to use different consistencies with differing molds.

Personally, I thought that wooden molds were difficult due to finding a suitable releasing agent. Sand was okay, but using pvc and rubber/silicon molds were best IMO. Right now, I really like using pvc due to the cost, however, I’m still finding an optimal way of making these plugs.
 
FWIW I had really good luck using pvc rings placed on plywood for making plugs. You just form the plug then remove the pvc and let it dry on the plywood. I got the idea from Iron Chef where they use those stainless rings to make little cakes of rice to put stuff on. Like Donny said getting the right consistency is the hardest part but once you get that it's a piece of cake. I think I made ~150 plugs in about an hour and a half including prep and cleanup.
