Aussie closed loop SPS reef.

i think that it would look the best to move the pump but the elbow wouldn't be bad either. this is coming along great i cant wait to see more

Here are a couple of pics of where the plumbing finished at last night. You'll see some of the bends that had to be put in to make it work, I'm not 100% happy with that, but couldn't see any way around it. If I had just used 25mm pipe for the hole thing I wouldn't have had any issues, maybe with the extra bends I've negated any benefits of the larger pipe, I don't know.

There are 4 outlets hooked up to 1 pump at this stage, we'll see what the flow ends up with using various combinations of outlets before I settle on how many to use.

Apologies for the glare, it's early morning and the sun is shining into the carport.

Also, two more SPS on their way

did you put in anything to prevent or dampen vibration from the pumps?

nice build! i like the corals you have selected too :)

Thanks guys. There are rubber grommets between the pump base and the stand. I had one pump running for a bit yesterday and the pump seemed very quiet, quieter than my Vortech I'm pretty sure.

Cheers,
Dave.

Both closed loops are now plumbed and operational

I still have a couple of small drips I need to take care of, mainly where the DUBVs join the bulkheads, but nothing too major. The flow from one pump, through 4 nozzles is probably adequate for just about any coral I think. Knock it back to any less than 4 nozzles and it really starts to churn the surface up, too much IMO, and if I ran with less than 4 I think I could be facing salt creep issues again. One pump through one nozzle will bulge water up over the centre brace :o

Two pumps through all 8 nozzles is pretty insane, but I reckon it'll be just the ticket for keeping stuff suspended.

On to the pics!!

Plumbers worst nightmare:

Water flow with both pumps running. I'll try to get a video tomorrow arvo if I get home early enough. Need to drop a bit of sand or something in there so you can see the tornadoes happening in there ;)

Next job is to see if the sump fits under all that spaghetti. I've measured it up and think I have an easy 2, maybe even 3mm of clearance :konk: :konk: We'll see tomorrow.

Then to plumb the drain and durso, set up the return manifold and chiller plumbing and that should be it for pipework. Then it's on to the hood.

Cheers,
Dave.

Update time!!

So everything has been running for a couple of days now. I still have some rearranging to do, but I guess that is always an ongoing thing. I have to play with the eductor directions a bit too, to try and get the flow where I want it. At the moment there is a huge wall of strong flow going from top to bottom at the right hand end of the tank. This is pushing all the sand away from that end. It has also caught a couple of inverts unaware when the closed loop pumps both kick in :roflmao:

The closed loop outlets are all still visible, I'm not sure what I'll do to hide them yet, but I'm thinking of hollowing out some live rock pieces and sticking some zoanthids on them. I am a little hesitant about introducing weeds into the tank though, so might use some encrusting montis instead.

On to the pics! Still some cleaning to do, but I'm getting there. Some of the corals have browned out a little during the transfer as they went for about 36 hours with no light, I am confident they will come back.

My dad is a bit of a photo nut, so I pinched his 100mm macro lense for an hour or so while he was visiting. Guess what Dave wants for Christmas now

That's about it for now, I'm going to dive in and fix a few bits and pieces up, test my calcium and alk levels, then enjoy looking at the tank for a bit.

Oh, I also need to stand the clam back up, I think he got caught in a rip last night :roflmao:

Cheers,
Dave.

What a great job you did with your closed loop. That would have drove me nuts to do the plumbing you did. I really like the way you mounted your CL pumps. By far the best CL setup I have seen yet.

I like this setup its was very well planned out. Did you get that clam recently or had it awhile its HUGE!! Best of luck..
