1/4" x 1" - this is the size of the openings along the side of the strainer. And yes, it is a large strainer, but that's favorable IMO since the pressure applied to each individual hole is reduced, which is therefore less likely to suck critters up against or into it. For my next tank CL drains I plan on going from a bottom bulkhead to a T, and both sides of the T will have elbows pointing up, to which I'll attach one of these strainers. So 2 strainers per drain, which should diffuse the pressure from each hole tremendously. It shouldn't be too hard to conceal with rocks and corals.Originally posted by bleedingthought
What are the dimensions of that strainer? I know they're big but an ABS elbow is HUGE and I think that strainer would be smaller.
And what do the second set of measurements mean on the AES website? "Strainers, 1 1/2" FNPT, 1/4" x 1""
Dude, I want a drum like that!Originally posted by Dudester
Teejo - Thanks, glad you like!
bleedingthought - Good call on the strainers, you won't regret it.
The 4-way has been rocking without problem for quite some time now. Go ahead and clean it out, and make sure you lift the magnets out and lube their surface up real well. Only put lube on the inside structures that won't get exposed to sand. Once that's done it should solve your problem, as it did mine. I also had Paul send me a modified drum that would tolerate a slight bit of sand passing through. The only potential down side to this is that all 4 outlets have some flow at all times, but the volume is negligible.
