Thanks kidako!

Not much happening with the tank at the moment Marc. Just buying time until I add some more fish, and watching the flatworms fluorish without predation (for the moment, anyway).

By the way, I have received several pm's with offers to buy my tank and light once I move to the new home. Thanks for everyone's interest but the system is sold, so please refrain from additional offers.

Sorry this thread has become woefully inactive, but building a house is like a second full-time job.

ya I'm with Mark. Inactivity = need for a FTS. Plus what to see the new light spectrum of the PM. Post em up dude! We deserve the attention here, not that new house, we were here first (through thick and thin). Read the first 30 plus pages, no "new house" even posted in this thread.

Hey, how about some pics of the new house build to keep this thread (a little more) active. Post up them pics of that foundation pour. We're all good (well, some of us anyway) at plumbing! We can't be responsible for any change orders though that our comments and/or recommendations might cause LOL!

Man new custom house with a larger tank. Honey I've died and gone to reefer heaven. I know, you need to include the new tank build and costs into the new home budget and add 20% so the fighting with the wife will be non-existant! This way the new tank gets the same attention as all the house fixturization!

Marc - OK, I'll get that FTS soon.

Bax and jnarowe -

bbehring - See above ;) . Wow, you sure know what you're talking about with respect to the build and the relations. Been there already, have you? I'll get some pics of the build soon as well. I'm already having them fix a small problem with the slab. When I designed the tank room I had the entire room's floor recessed 1.5", and included a floor drain. I noticed that the recessed portion will only accomodate about 2/3 of the tank, meaning the stand would have to be built 'uneven'. I didn't like that at all, so they're cutting out the concrete to make it right. Once that's done, the framing should start at week's end. As for comments and suggestions, please let me know! I'd much rather have a change order than wish I had later after it's too late.

marty - It'll have 400W MH supplemented with T5's and VHO actinics.

djay - I got the strainer from Aquatic Eco. Here's what you're looking for. You'll just need a threaded riser to connect it to your bulkhead.

What are the dimensions of that strainer? I know they're big but an ABS elbow is HUGE and I think that strainer would be smaller.

And what do the second set of measurements mean on the AES website? "Strainers, 1 1/2" FNPT, 1/4" x 1""

1/4" x 1" - this is the size of the openings along the side of the strainer. And yes, it is a large strainer, but that's favorable IMO since the pressure applied to each individual hole is reduced, which is therefore less likely to suck critters up against or into it. For my next tank CL drains I plan on going from a bottom bulkhead to a T, and both sides of the T will have elbows pointing up, to which I'll attach one of these strainers. So 2 strainers per drain, which should diffuse the pressure from each hole tremendously. It shouldn't be too hard to conceal with rocks and corals.

Sorry bro, don't know the dimensions, but here it is sitting beside a 6" long 1-1/2" PVC riser.

I had 2 2" elbows on the back and they just stick out too far. Those look big but the profile looks smaller. I might just need to buy some and see how they work out. Thanks, man! :)

Mike, I'm going to go ahead and order 2 of those strainers. :)

BTW, have you had any problems with the 4 way and sand getting in there? I know you got it solved last time you posted on the OM forums by just cleaning it. Just wondering how things have been with it. I'm getting slight hammering (about 3 seconds every minute or so) and I wanted to try cleaning it first before calling Paul.

Teejo - Thanks, glad you like!

bleedingthought - Good call on the strainers, you won't regret it.

The 4-way has been rocking without problem for quite some time now. Go ahead and clean it out, and make sure you lift the magnets out and lube their surface up real well. Only put lube on the inside structures that won't get exposed to sand. Once that's done it should solve your problem, as it did mine. I also had Paul send me a modified drum that would tolerate a slight bit of sand passing through. The only potential down side to this is that all 4 outlets have some flow at all times, but the volume is negligible.

Dude, I want a drum like that! :) How much was it?
