auto top off pump questions

My pump has started to make a whistling noise, I don't know if the pump is starting to fail or if it is another problem. Also, the pump seems to kick in every few minutes on my 155 gallon tank. With my sump I have about 200 gallons. The sensor is in my sump, I am wondering if I have it set wrong but I don't see how as it is pretty much keeping my tank at a constant water level. So my question is if all things are set up correctly should your pump kick in every few minutes?

If the water level varies for some reason, such as an inconsistent drain or return rate, or a wave or surge in the tank, it may kick on to compensate more frequently. It may also be you have a very high rate of evaporation.

Noise comes and goes, it generally is caused by some small foreign object in the impeller, however you cannot open the pump, but they do generally work themselves out over time. Likely culprits are hair or pieces of gravel/grit. You could try swishing the pump around in a 50/50 mix of vinegar and warm water. My experience is the noise goes away as suddenly as it starts if you just leave it alone, in a couple weeks it will likely just go away.
