Auto top off system

I've got an IM titanium hydrofill controller and a simple Tom's aqua lift pump. Works great so far with a 10 gallon brute container.

I had a JBJ on my big system (200g) and the float in the freshwater always worked 100% when the top off water tank ran low. But the one in the sump failed to turn the system on at the need for water more often than it worked. If I swished the float around in the saltwater it would start. I hated it. And that's from a guy who likes the JBJ chillers a lot.

If you have a secure place where it can't be jostled, Hydor Smart Level makes a good small-budget one. I've had two fail, one instant-death, but OTOH a phone call to Hydor has sent a replacement winging my way ASAP, so it remains a good low-budget option.

FWIW I've got an Ultralife Float Switch that has been in service for almost 18 years now without any problems. One of the best things I've ever bought.

It's usually not the controller that fails but the float switches, sensors or the pump. I'm running the JBJ ATO for about 2 weeks now and it failed once cause the aqua lifter didn't start and it timed out. I tripped the float switch and this time the aqua lifter started and it's been working fine since. This aqua lifters have been a hit and miss in my experience.

Silly question, everyone, generally, reccomends the one they use.

I use Avast Marine with a Masterflex pump controlled by Apex.

Evaporation amount is an important factor. I replace 2.5 -4 gallons a day, depending on season.
