Auto Top Off

I have been looking at auto top offs and wonder what other people are using. i'm not interested in DIY as there seems to be little if any savings. I am going to run my RO unit directly to my sump and use a solenoid to turn it on and off. I do have a reserve tank for the RO water. Has anyone used the units from www.autotopoff.com or www.top-off.com? Any feedback?
Thanks

I use the double sump mount from www.autotopoff.com that is connected to my kalk drum. It has worked fine - one time a small snail got wedged into the bottom switch and when the water level hit the top switch, turned my pump off - as designed.

Yeah, I am looking at that double float model myself. Having a backup float is nice. The solenoid makes me a bit nervous since it will be hooked directly to a continuous water source, but I was thinking of using two for peace of mind.

I have the double float from autotofoff as well. My best reccomendation is to make sure whatever is supplying the makeup water to your tank is attached very securely. My cat likes to play under my cabinet and knocked my hose from my resevoir out of my sump. Needless to say i came home to 15 gal. of water soaked into my living room floor.

im using a plain old float valve plumbed directly to my RO/DI unit. i know im taking a risk but i dont have room for a container and im never going back to buckets. i do have a solenoid valve so im thinking of making a safety shut off for the incoming water supply but im lazy and kinda broke so it will have to wait.

I also use the double sump mount from www.autotopoff.com. It is connected to an aqualifter that pumps from a 10gal tank. I also ordered the snail guard just to slow down sump waves. I highly receomend it. I have been very pleased with it.

I'm looking for something that can back me up for a couple of weeks on vacation: I'm interested in getting an autotopoff unit as per above, have a competent person with some chemistry (and pet) background to just come in, run a RO/DI if needed and feed the fish once every few days. Do you think [on a fairly stable 52 gal with MH/actinic on timer, and putting the autotopoff on a bucket set beside the tank,] that that would suffice?

I have two of the top-off deluxe units from www.top-off.com and I have been very pleased with them. I use one to top off my tank through a kalk reactor and use the other with a solenoid valve to fill my top buckets or salt mixing container.

They are both fine. As a safety feature personally I run dual solenoids b/c it is unlikely that two will fail simultaneously though one can for sure fail and then you are well and truly hosed
