Avandss 265 Montreal Build

As a general rule, the bigger the sump the better. However, I have the same main display (ML265) as you and am using a 75 as my sump, and it suffices; so I think you could certainly manage with a 90!

Congrats on the beauty of the build and the twins. As you know, you can go the cheap route and buy a 75 gallon. the 90's are a bit too tall. Water level only raises about 4" in a 75 gallon when return pump shuts off. I find it to be great size.

Biggest recommendation. Get your tank done before the babies arrive!

don't forget i do have a 36'' clearance in the back, should i not aim for the highest amount of sump volume overall?

don't get me wrong the idea of saving space sounds amazing (cost is a non issue)?

i want the tank up and running soon!!

how was it with the new born and the tank?

as you probably know now, I am in Montreal too, about 20 min from you.

I only have 120g with 55g sump

been in hobby for exactly 1 year
learned a thing or two

can meet one day to share knowledge.

Can always a get a custom made one.

Babies take away alot of your free time.

i could get a custom one but it would not be worth it, the basic sized are good

its really 75vs 90 vs 120

will there be a HUGE difference between them?

Congrats on the twins! Good news on the non-move as well haahaa! As long as the sump can comfortably hold the entire volume of water when the system loses power, you should be good to go :) Pipes, main display tank draining to the bottom of the weir teeth, etc. all add to the total amount of water that finds its way back into the sump if the power cuts. You can add GF one ways onto the water lines to minimize that flow back, but they add to the total resistance in the plumbing. If I could do one thing different, which I may still do, is switch out my bottom sump for something a little wider and maybe an inch taller. As it is now I lose some water down the emergency overflow and that's not good.

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks Scott!!! btw i will be in Saskatoon in a few months, would love to see your custom setup!!!

thanks to reefcentral i met a fellow reefer ( roman120g ) and he has been directing me in the right direction!

he will be assisting with the build!

i got all my tanks today

125g sump! 72x18x22
40g qt /1 48x13x16
20g qt /2 24x12x16
30g rodi bin 36x13x16
salt mix barrel 75 gallons

now for the sump design, i will be posting my initial draft soon

it will be composed of
10'' frag section
return section
refugium
algae scrubber
protein skimmer + filter socks,

and sump ideas/designs would be greatly appreciated!

skimmer will be the sro3000int with the automatic neck cleaner

lighting will be 3x radion pro G3 (i finally decided to go with radions after seeing romans120g tank, the lights are amazing and the control side makes all the difference!

Quick update,

I should be receiving my Radion g3 pro's by this weekend
next week i will be receiving my apex gold
and for plumbing there seems to be a shortage of true union valves! so it will only be done next week

on saturday i will be setting up my baffles with Roman120g

i set all my tanks and drilled my emergency overflow in the sump and my rodi drains in the rodi storage tank

GLASS DRILLING IS A JOKE..... seriously it is easy, specially with the wood guide i made

if anyone wants i can write down step by step what to do for easy drilling
