Awaiting Package

I am writing this so others can read and hopefully learn from my mistake. After an extended vacation 7 days, first trip in 6 years my tank crashed due to a sump that broke and an ATO doing its job so well. I lost 85% of the content of my tank(Coral dead, roch , a smelly mess when I got home. I knew when I landed and the phone was turned on I was in trouble alerts from the tank 36hours in the making. I had a friend that was supposed to check in on the tank alas they did not. Three lessons learned, first program the ATO not just to float switches but overall salinity of the tank. Second even if friend say they are checking on the tank expect they will not. Third, my leak detectors were installed for the tank, I never thought about installing them in the basement where the sump was.

I was going to pack it up to someone telling me it time to stop the hobby, but after reading the forums and how people who recover from crashes can have even better tanks then before and the pictures within these forums, call me crazy but I love the challenge, I decided to try again.

I have to say thanks to Richard, who answered all my questions without ever knowing if I was going to order with professionalism even when I said one last question 5 email ago.

I placed the order on Saturday 7/11/2015, Richard answered back within 30 minutes asking when you would like the 1st shipment? I answered back that

I needed some additional time to clean up the living room due to the crash, and decided on Monday the 7/13/2015 after work. Richard answered back stating confirmed and expect to hear about more info on Monday.

I ordered the 80 Gallon package with 40 lbs of additional sand for a 125 gallon tank. I was looking for approx. at least a 1.3lbs per gallon rock ratio. I like space in my tank to allow the coral and fish to swim around and not a large rock wall. After talking to Richard, he told me if I needed more rock I can just order it and deliver it as part 2 of the package.

This morning readings are my ORP is 330, my Ammonia, Nitrates are 0, PH is 8.23 and the temperature of the tank is approx. 77.5 awaiting the contents of package 1 in less than 12 hours

Package 1 Update

Package 1 Update

After deep inspection of the rocks, no bad crabs that we could tell. Saw 5-6 Porcelain crabs but no Gorilla crabs (at the moment), none were in the bottom of the boxes either. Boy did I hunt for them, I suspended the rocks for at least 4-5 minutes each in the tank with a flashlight looking in the holes of the rock to see if I saw any movement.

Looks like one Orange Star fish was inside one of the rocks, quite a bit of life within the rocks. I did not arrange the rocks but placed them to allow the water the clear. I saw two different urchins. A Black Spine one and a Brown one. I saw a few crabs, a few snails.

Overall the rock is full of life, no complaints, the one rock I like the most has a hole right in the middle which I will have to make sure I place it somewhere where the hole can be seen.

The return pumps are the only pumps now running, the Mp40 are off and the Skimmer per the instructions.

I will clean up the glass, arrange the rock and get some nice closes up once the water clears up.

Rocks Being Added

Rocks Being Added

Rocks now are being added, overall full of life, no issues.

Again all the rock came in 3 or 4 layers worth of bagging, most of the rock was submerged in the water.

The coolest rock it looks like a small volcano, I have yet to aquascape I was just getting them in the water after inspecting them thoroughly while dangling it in the tank. (Sorry about the glass being dirty will clean it up :))

The rock above the date was full of plant life, it was upside down in the box so when I overturned it I was surprised on just how much plant life was on it. (will get a good close up once the water and lights can be on)

The largest of the rocks, full small tubes on the side of them. Never saw so many clumped together.

Overall just sitting them on the bottom of the tank will arrange them tonight after the cloudiness wears off.

This was approx 1/2 of the rock shipment in Package 1.

Hitchhikers

Hitchhikers

A few pictures of the hitchhiker we did see:

The one when we opened the bag of sand:

The One urchin we did see, the other was a black one attached to the rock. Could not get a good picture of it but will.

Looks good man. Looking forward to seeing some clean pics. Sounds like you got some nice hitchhikers too.

With a flashlight, I see a few small crabs to tiny to ID at this time on the rocks. I am seeing Dusters beginning to appear over the rock, and a few snails are now out and about, along with a few other crabs (To small to even ID) that I did not see before. No popping at this time that I can tell.

I will get some closes up with the rocks tomorrow. Under a flashlight and blue lunar lights I have placed the best side out and will arrange them when the water has cleared up.

I did a quick water test and both my nitrates and ammonia are showing an increase from what they were when I started 0, but only slight color change on red sea kits.

Day 1

Day 1

Woke up this morning and Richard was 100% correct the water is crystal clear. I had to change out my filter socks, and the skimmers are running without any issues. The MP are still off and will turn them on tonight, after I arrange the rock. Did not finish everything until after 11:00pm.

Morning with the Tank

End of Day 1

End of Day 1

With the evening water test out of the way, we have now have Ammonia at 1.0 from .25 and Nitrates are now at 2 from .5. To play it safe I did a 25 gallon water change tonight to keep Ammonia and Nitrates in check. The Mp40 are now back online, adjusted on the tank.

Package one rock approx 80 lbs of the 160 has been arranged. (Subject to change when package 2 arrives)

This Hitchhiker is the king of the world right now in the tank. I do have 3 now I have seen. 2 this color and 1 black one.

This rock is full of life, a large orange sponge is attached to the side of it, with some beautiful red macro algae throughout it.

Day 2 Morning Update

Day 2 Morning Update

With this morning water test out of the way the Ammonia is down to .5 and the Nitrates are between .75 and 1. Everything seems well acclimated in the tank, the urchins are moving fine, the few snails and crabs that were in the package are moving around the tank without any issues.

Day 2 Evening Update

Day 2 Evening Update

Minimal change in Nitrates and Ammonia, no water change needed.

Day 3 Update Monring

Day 3 Update Monring

Good Morning Everyone:

This morning water test out of the way the Ammonia is between .25 and .5 and the Nitrates are between 1 and 2. So far no issues.

If you're using an API ammonia test I've found they almost always appear to show .25 NH3 however double checking with a second source shows zero. Just something to keep in mind.

Day Evening Update

Thank you for that information. I will pick up a red sea tomorrow and test with that also. I seem to be steady between now at .25. My Nitrates are also between 1 and 2 with this evening test.

Day 4 Morning Update

This morning water test shows that the Ammonia is between .25 and .5 but looks very close to .25 (Tonight I will get the Red sea test kit) and the Nitrates are now down to 1.0. Tank looks healthy, and no issues to report.

As you all have read this was all being done ater my tank crashed, but a few things did surive the crash. (Tuff little Guys & Gals) some snails crabs and three fish (Clown, Salfin Tang, and a Neon Goby) did surive the ordeal, after talking to Richard we will be adding them back to the tank this weekend before package 2. They are all in a tuperware container in the middle of my living room with an air stone, heater, skimmer which I also been testing daily against.

Day 4 evening update
