Marley & Me
I have been waiting 2 1/2 years to get a mandarin so my pod population was big enough. Walked in and saw this awesome new fish. Relatively new to the aquarium trade. I am so in love!

Here is a pic of what he looks like, mine is male like this one

I am so glad I waited so long! They are new so I would not have seen him 2 years ago. I love green mandys but I LOVE this guy. Was told he will eat frozen, but I have massive numbers of pods and ~100 pounds of LR.

Thank you :)

I was blown away! New dragonet, I was like nooooooo......reaaallly!?!??!

Plus, 25 bucks! Holyness!

There were about 20 in a tank marked 'sold'! Someone walked in and bought the whole thing. I finagled and mentioned I used to work there and "mysteriously one of them has disappeared ;) "

I think they replaced mine with a red scooter blenny. lol

(I WOULD feel bad except I called first and asked for a 'red mandarin'. Just the green type that is a little more red. They said they had them. Well they did not, and what the dude thought I was asking for, these, were already spoken for. Whoever bought them before me, thank you for inadvertently sharing the love, and stop buying entire tanks of fish :p )

Synchiropus moyeri is commonly known as the Moyer's dragonet.

A wonderful fish that will be hardy if they eat. I've seen good success with frozon red plankton and cyclops.

They're $60 at my LFS in Southern California.

where are they? yreef or adepot?

i got one from adepot about 2 weeks ago, eating great and cruising around. havent seen it eat prepared yet...

Great fish I have one too. They are relatively new to the market. Just to correctly state the one you have is not a Moyers. It is what they are calling a Ruby Red Dragonet. One of the main difference is the yellow fins.

Also if you only paid 25 the store probably had them mislabeled. They go for a $100 here in Wisconsin. So $25 is a steal. I wonder what the individual was going to do with the rest, can't really keep two males in a tank.

Are you sure ?

That's the fish identified on several sites and being sold here in Southern California as a Moyers.

Google it and you'll find it.

Thanks all! From what I understand they are newly discovered and not yet identified officially. Just by common name. It did say Ruby Red Dragonet on the tank so I don't think they were mislabeled, but my area fish stores routinely have very low prices. Mayjong, it was Aqualife. I usually stick to Your Reef as it is around the corner, but Aqualife said they had "red mandarins"..... Even though that person was wrong...(I like these even better :D )

He is swimming around more today. He spent yesterday and most of the night under a leather. Now he is picking pods among the rocks. Oh my god he is so cute.

A fish like this is why I got into this hobby. Sure I got sidetracked by coral, like most others, but this fish is glorious. I am gobsmacked. For perspective, my yellow clown goby is currently bigger. Little ruby red is picking non-stop though. I will try some Rod's tonight, see if he shows any interest. Would just be a bonus, I have more than enough pods of every conceivable type to sustain him for life. Oh and for RDtrack, I would put good money the person buying the whole tank was going to flip them and sell them for a lot more money.

Never heard of those, ohhh pretty finnage! That is a cool fish too!

I literally did not know about any dragonet besides the green and red mandarin and the target until yesterday. I knew I could not have one until I waited so I did not want to tempt myself too much. Very happy I waited.
