I ordered a couple of yuma's from the guy you suggested, Will at Aqua SD like I posted in another thread. So far the guy has been a true gentleman. He had problems shipping to me because I don't have a post office that will hold shipments. He doesn't use fed-ex so he had a whopping freight charge to give me but he paid for half. I'm looking forward to seeing the quality of his Yuma's tomorrow and he's asked for followup and to let him know how they are doing so he sounds like someone to keep doing business with. Thanks for giving him away.

No problem bro, always willing to help out fellow ric collectors......We need to be a tight group as most of the research on these will be coming from us together.....I like Will and Aqua-SD alot. I would put them in my top 5 for service and quality of live stock......I have only had one ric do bad and that was my fault so, as far as that goes he has a 100% rate for yumas and my tank.

I hope they do good for you and keep us updated with your shipment......

some trouble

some trouble

I'm having some trouble with one of the Yumas I got from Will. He's aware of the situation and ready to help on his end but I decided I wanted this one so I'm going to try some radical stuff tomorrow when a local LFS that has antibiotics is open. Basically it came in smooshed against the bag. Seems a common theme. The bag was full of debris and horribly stinky. Slightly brown tips on some of the polyps. Some brown showing through from underneath some locations and an area on the underside with some brown and missing tissue. I didn't acclimate and put in the water right away and that seemed to put things right for several hours. Gapey but the mouth was getting smaller. Turns out though, he's missing his core. He's a donut. From mouth to bare rock he's missing most of his insides. I found out the next day after work when I noticed a big gaping area on the bottomside. He let go of the rock and if you position him right you can look out his mouth from the bottom of his foot. But, rather than just slough and die it acts like it's fighting. It has response to touch. It tries to curl into a ball. It has a few messentaries left attached to the inside walls and tries to feed a little bit. My concern is the brown jelly that might be raging, hidden inside. I'm also wondering if it can regenerate from this.

I had one like that a month ago, I ended up losing it, I tried iodide dips and amino acid dips. Neither helped, but it wasn't giving me any response to anything either......I would have to say that is the only issue with having them shipped attached to big rocks....It would almost be better if the vendor( no matter who) would chip the rock down to as minimal as they can before selling. All of the ones I have gotten from Will have been on big rocks but they all have ended up right side up in the bag......I do know of what you talk about though as I have had quite a few shipped and smashed up against the bag and taking the full weight of the rock and shipping force right to the tissue.....I hope Will takes care of you. I know he does care about his customers and the corals he ships......Situations like that is one of the disadvantages of having these things shipped to us..... That goes for all corals not just yumas.....It's even worse with hammers and frogspawns as well with that type of issue......

Cry...

OUCH! That is exactly like the one I had a month or so ago.....Not from Aqua-SD though....I don't understand it myself how all of mine that have melted have started out just like that and then death. I don't know why the foot directly under the mouth would be the first to deteriorate and melt away. In all of them I have seen that gap and not just my tank all do that....Sorry to say I wouldn't have much hope. Have you sent that pic off to Will? I am sure the cause of it was shipping stress and being squished between the rock and bag....

Yup, I told him to wait though and give me a chance. I'm going to try something radical tomorrow when the lfs in town is open, or hit up the vet for some strong antibiotics. What I've been wondering is, is if the compression shoves the messenteries into the lower body and the resulting damage to both stimulates and or releases digestive enzymes that, well, digest all the way to the rock. I'm basically wondering if it cannibalized itself as a result of having its own body shoved into its stomach.

One time when I was cleaning up one that I eventually lost. I sucked out alot of goop from the cavity. Brown slimy mucus. I dropped it down into an empty salt bucket and left it set for several hours before cleaning out the bottom. It etched the plastic, made it all rough. So I know whatever they use to digest prey must be pretty nasty.

I gave up on my grand plans as the lower half thats shown disconnected from the rock, has started to brown slime rot and sag. I decided to do emergency surgery and cut away roughly 60/40 and will keep en eye out for any signs of rotting. I also scored what looked like a healthy foot all the way down into the rock. Maybe I can salvage something and add to the babies collection I'm taking care of.

My other Yuma from will is doing stellar. As an update, this one has mostly detatched from the rock. It appears to have healed the cut damage. And has managed to draw itself into a horseshoe shape. I'm hopeful that the infection that was riddling the other half is gone. I have some Erythromycin on standby in case I have to try something drastic in a small 2.5 gallon hospital tank I bought for him. If it comes to that. I haven't communicated with Will in a while. He has a Yuma ready to ship for me and I think I will just go ahead and pay for it and have it come.

That's cool...Good luck with it...

I lost one this week overnight, it was doing great for a month and BAM slimed over did some iodide dips and it would look better and then the next morning it would be slimed over again....The wierd thing is the bas of the foot was shredded like something was eating it causing it to lift up....I ended up tossing it as not to possibly infect others.....So chalk up another loss....

Well I cut the rock out from under him. he was hanging by a thread and I stuck him on a new plug with a piece of pvc pipe surrounding him held in place by a rubber band. This should keep him from winding up in an anemone or something if he lets go. I did examine him on all sides and he looks pretty clean. crossing my fingers, I'll try to get a pic if I have time.

Will killed the one he had on hold for me. I guess it fell into an acan and they both died. Might be code for I sold it to someone else as well. So, I get to save a little money.

Well Azzz, I lost him. I learned a few things I think but despite almost healing back into a complete cirlce it developed the infection I had hoped was removed by cutting it in half. It broke out so quickly I didn't get a chance to try to experiment with curing it. Removed what was left to ensure no harm comes to other rics in my system.

One more loss.

Lost another one, my big pastel pink one....Out of the blue it started to pinch oneside. I think my fire shrimp has been picking at it.....The shrimp for the last 2 weeks would be right next to it for hours picking around....Then the last week there was a spot on it that was pulled up kinda pinched....Well to day I cam home from work and it was slimed up and nasty....I have also have had a calcium issue the last 2 days so I do't know if that played a part or not......Hope all is well with yours.
