The father release the second batch late last night, so the total released fry was 21. One passed away fairly quick. The remaining 20 are all doing fine and have little red bellies full of bbs

My plan is to grow them out and train them to accept frozen mysis first. After probably around two months I will be ready to start finding homes for them. I will be sure to post on this forum when they are available, and if possible I will try to check with those that have shown interest here first!

Hopefully I have a good survival rate and can keep most of the 20 fry I'm starting with. For now, it's just a day at a time

I am pretty confident you'll have good success. I have a single baby that's survived pretty much on its own in my display tank with no special feeding. He hangs out next to my gigantea carpet and eats right along with the other fish. Congrats on the progress thus far. How did you catch the male without him spitting up eggs? I've got a male with eggs at the moment but he's pretty protected by live rock in the 300g.

I had the advantage of him only being in a 40 to start

Around day 20, beforen I could see any fry swimming in his mouth, I started to try and catch him. At this stage he was mostly hiding along the rocks towards the bottom, but he was still too quick and skittish during the day.
I waited a couple hours after lights out and then I flipped the lights on. He was a bit slower and not as skittish then, either sleepy or stunned from the lights, so I just used my hand to slowly corralled him towards a corner of the tank. Once he was against the side of the tank I got him to swim away from my hand and right into a clear breeder box.

Unfortunately it looks like I may end up losing three of the fry... There are three, from the second batch that was released, that are noticeably smaller than the rest and are mostly laying on their sides on the bottom of the tank... There is plenty of fresh hatched brine for them to eat, and everyone else is healthy and happy, so I'm not certain what their deal is.

Had a few more casualties on days 3 and 4, but since then everyone seem healthy and growing. It's been a week and there are now 13 healthy fry that have already doubled in size. Going to wait another week until I start trying to introduce frozen brine along with their bbs.

When they get bigger and you are ready to sell them, I will definitely take two. It sounds like they're doing great so far.

I now cringe when the wife notices the Perculas lays yet another batch and be told to save them...yikes more tanks.:uhoh3: But this brings me back to my Cichlids days where spawning was a weekly event and 'baby daddies' always had a mouthful of eggs or fry. Not so common in the marine world so it's definitely an event. Congrats...love Bengaiis!

So, I'll have to confirm tomorrow, but it looks as if my Banggai just accepted his second batch of eggs. It's been 15 days since he spat the first batch, so I'm optimistic that he has had plenty of time to build up his energy and will carry to full term again
