Baby Regal? Hybrid? What is This Tiny Angelfish?

SkullV

They Got My Number
Left the LFS today with this tiny angelfish. They had it listed as "Tiny Regal Angelfish" which based on the reputation and expertise I totally believe. Then again I have never seen a baby Regal before and the employees on hand didn't know if it was a Red Sea or otherwise.

The little guy was eating pellets, flake, and cyclopeeze in the store so hopefully the fin damage to its anal fin will heal quickly. He's currently in my QT alone so I have plenty of time to observe/treat as necessary.

Anyway, onto the best 2 photos I could get of him at the current time. If anyone has anymore info on the geographic origin or definitive species ID that would be incredible!

Juvenile regal angel.

Any idea of the collection location? Can't tell yet at its size, they all start out as yellow bellies.

Awesome pickup!

After some more research I'm thinking the same thing. No one had any idea of the collection location. The LFS is Old Town Aquarium in Chicago so if they had any idea it would have been listed. They are one of the best!

Roughly what did it cost? This can be a huge indicator on collection location. The yellow bellied regals, esp this size would demand a much higher price then a indo blue bellied version.

Looks like a standard juvie regal to me, agree with those who say its too small to ID as a regular or yellow belly

Looks like a juvy Red Sea regal angel to me, the Pacific ones tend to have more blue in the fins like this:

But again, it might be that it is just too small to have the blue. Anyhow, hard to find them that small!

Looks like a Red Sea Regal. Great find - Congrats!!
While in QT, feed it a wide variety of food, including veggies if you can, and you may want to treat with PraziPro as a preventative measure against flukes or internal parasites. We love our regal (we have the Pacific variant) - we bought it as a juvenile and have had it for 4-5 years...

Wow, I've never seen one with such a yellow/orange anal fin!
