agsansoo; very cool, imo, they are one of the fish that we should all try and purchase as tank raised due to their poor shipping & high mortality rate during shipping. There was an interesting article on breeding them in a recent reef hobbyist magazine. You can skip ahead to page 6 for the article:

Amazingly (or maybe not), back when they wholesaled around $50, and even when the priced dropped to around $20 wholesale, they were like steel. Always came in good shape, and survived long term. Now the wholesale price is around $4 or less, they come in poor shape and drop like flies

No problem at all; I like the artificial urchin that was made, i wonder if the same idea could be applied for our little clowns, give them something to play around in.

Bill didn't they make it onto some kind of endangered list last year? It even talks about the poor survival rate in the article i linked to.

Wouldn't a thinning population in the wild, lead to a thinning in the gene pool also ? Maybe making them weaker ?

They made onto the IUCN Red List. There was a concerted effort get them listed as endangered on CITES, but it failed due to politics vs. science

Well the maroons laid another clutch of eggs . Not sure when, looks like it was in the past couple of days. The anemone is getting so big it's difficult to see them.

Update:
The 25 fry that are around 5 months old now have been moved from a 4 gallon cube tank to a brand new 10 gallon grow-out tank. This is a few transfer photos. More photos to follow after the lights turn on.

They look great agsansoo. Just a thought though. I've noticed with mine if I put objects in the tank it gives them more to fight over. Because of the nature of the fish you'll get one or 2 that will claim each item as "theirs" and fight off the others. Its fun to watch. I don't know if it would turn into a problem for maroons.

After observing these guys for a while, I notice a definite pecking order in the ranks. The larger clown will a approach a smaller one and the smaller will tilt and do the shake dance. If the smaller doesn't, the fight starts. Also if two of the larger fry meet, they touch mouths gently and move on.

I'm hope it doesn't. The largest one already has a claim to the small sponge filter. Guards it like it his anemone. LOL

Update:

B1 laid on 11/27 hatched 12/01
Placed in a bucket. None survived.

B2 laid on 12/06 hatched 12/12
Went to work at 6:30am on Friday with all eggs on the maroons favorite spawning rock. Arrived home at 4:15pm. All hatched, all were gone.

B3 laid on 12/15 might hatched on 12/21.
Will stay up late Saturday and Sunday night waiting their arrival.

Well this thread is coming to an end. I sold 6 baby maroons this weekend. I have 17 left. This was a great learning experience for me. I have come away with a new found respect for marine fish breeders.

Sadly I also learned there is no market for White Strip Maroons. I love my Maroons in my DT, model citizens. LFS complain they are over run with clownfish, due to ORA requires them to purchase $200 worth of clownfish with every ORA coral order.

@FB, I think I would have had better luck selling them, if my maroon's were GSM. Oh well hind sight is 20/20. LOL Once all these are gone I might try to raise another batch again. Or look for a pair of Onyx clownfish.
