Overall, the tank is doing quite well. Growth is good and the colors have really started to come out since I turned my lights down. I do have a little bit of algae starting, however. I'm thinking of going bare bottom. Does anyone have experience removing a sandbed from an established tank? I'm guessing slow and steady - taking a bit out at a time - is the way to go. Any help is appreciated.

I think when people decide to switch to bare bottom they do it over the course of a few months.

When doing water changes you use small rubber tubing to suck up the sand. This will eliminate any stirring of the nasties that may be living in the sandbed.

Thanks for that info; that's what I thought would make sense and it's good to hear someone else say it haha. The first picture in this newest set is actually what Bob was kind enough to give me a piece of. It was given to me as a favia, I believe. Maybe Bob can shed some light on the details.

That is the "RAPTORS PEACE FAVIA". That is one of my favorites also, super bright green and super bright purple. Just awesome colors

So, I'm still dealing with some algae issues... just haven't gotten around to curing them fully unfortunately. I have been siphoning out some sand each time I do a water change, but the algae started before that. I may have to resort to chemical warfare to get it under control. I did have two acans die off, but luckily everything else is still doing well.

I realize my white balance skills leave something to be desired, but I'll work on that at some point.

Still dealing with algae issues, which I'm not really happy about. But I'm almost done with siphoning out the sandbed and the corals are still happy. Both fish are doing well, also. Hopefully soon the algae will be all gone and I can finally get a good FTS
