Servo,
I was fortunate enough to have some great guys to work with over here when I moved out here to Texas, I transferred within the company so alot of people already new who I was and my work ethics. Plus I fed them and had the fight that night!!! As far as the aquascaping goes. In my ghetto fabulous drawing on the first page, my ultimate goal is to leave plenty of room for my fish to grow out in and enjoy their new home. I have a large 14" vlamingi tang that is eye balling the new tank since he is crammed in my sump for now. I couldn't belive when I got my first electrical bill out here how much ya'all pay, I thought it was bad in California. My system isn't even up yet and I am paying more now than over there.
So to offset some of the usage I am not going to be using the 6-luminarcs that was in my first plan. I ended up getting away with 4 of them and the spread is nice..... In the pics only 3 were lit as I found out that one of my capcitors is bad.
I brought with me from cali around 1100#'s of marshall, fiji, and tonga that I had in my old system plus some huge pedistal/shelf pieces I got from my friend Tat(Tat's Tropical Illusions/Rio/Taam/oceanpure). Some measure 36"x30" so I am looking to do valleys and islands througout the tank. Eventhough my old system way 385g I had way too much rock in there for a full blown SPS system with large fish. I love both worlds, but my huge tangs always fragged my colonies for me. My approach here is the leave out plenty of room for them to swim around the islands, not into them. I will probably need a couple of Aquacaping Experts to help out when I am ready to take that next step!!
As far as plumbing goes, I have made numerous trips to Lowes/HD and marine depot and have most of the major compnents. The systme will b edriven by 1-sequence 5800seq23 which will return from my huge sump that Marc fixed. It will then head straight through one of the 1-1/2" bublkheads that is inside the overflow. It will then extend about 5" above the top of the tank which the oceans motion 8way will sit atop and drop all the returns along th eperimeter of the tank. I will also have 4 streams throught the tank to help out with flow too.
My wife is begging me to not go DSB as I had problems with my other tank picking up sand with the magnet and scratching the tank up. I already have the sand in the garage, I ended up going with a larger grade sand instead of the 0-sugar size that I had in my old system. Being in the hobby for for 10+ years you start to understand why all of the old timers always tell you to take your time and really plan out your system. I want to make sure that I invision for changes or upgrades in the fututre, that is why there are 2 1-1/2" bulkheads in the back wall for a later closed loop and to have such a large overflow that can hande 6000gp, just incase I want a surge system. I will keep documenting my progress as I go and thanks to all of my cali and Texas friends for you comments and support.
