Bad Super Bowl Experience

Not the game but when i got home my new titanium heater had shorted or something and my tank temp was 93 degrees! Lost my pom pom, hammer, torch, frogspawn, galaxia. All my really nice soft corals. What a lovely welcome home.

List is getting longer. Favia the size of a salad plate, purple mushrooms(about 30), cleaner shrimp, a fox coral about 6" long, and God knows what else before they're done. My lobo brains don't look good and I think i found a way to zap kenyi trees. I'm on the verge of feeling very ill at the moment. The only thing keeping me from it is the fact I'm so ****ed I can't see straight. On the bright side when my overflows get here I wont have to worry about storing the corals when I install them.

What BRAND titanium heater? You should report this to the manufacturer immediately.
In addition to having a warranty claim for the defective heater, you may have a product liability claim for the damage to your livestock. Take photos and keep records of your loss.
Do NOT send the defective heater back to the manufacturer yet - even if they ask - you may need it for evidence.
If the manufacturer will not report this to their liabaility insuror, you might consider retaining an attorney. Under Oklahoma law, you are entitled to reasonable attorney fees for a property damage claim**.
Just a thought...

** I'm not an attorney but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express....:strooper:

I would also like to know what heater this was. I have always used Finnex Titanium heaters and the only time I had one start to overheat is when the temp probe on the controller somehow came out of the water. I have had one that would not heat up out of the box also. I usually put them in a bucket of water and let them run a few days before adding them to a tank.

Wow, seems like tanks right now are just dying, pauls and now yours. I thought mine was going to have the same fate as you when I came home yesterday and the oven was left on and the house temp was about 100 and both tanks were at 95-98, but nothing has died yet. Very sorry for your loss

It's just getting worse. Both my lobo brains, my open brain, my hydnaphoria(remove from the donor list please), and my chalice. I am sooooooo depressed.

JK it makes me think that they might have taken an electrical shock. was there any sign of an arc?

No. The heater was is the sump. The temp in the display was 93.7 degrees. I unplugged the heater and let the tank cool off. I then plugged the heater back in and with the thermostat turned way down the heater still got hot. My hand was in the tank when I turned it back on. I'd know if it leaked electricity. The thermostat controller is where the problem is.
