baking sodium bicarbonate questions

I recently purchased 5 lbs of sodium bicarbonate from BRS by accident as I've used recipe 1 for years. How long/temperature do I need to bake it to use in recipe 1? Can I bake it in quantity? Would the recipe measures then be the same as I've used for recipe 1 and my dosing regimen unaltered?

An hour or so at 350 should do the job, if you keep the depth of baking soda about an inch or so. The measurements should be about the same after baking.

I spread 2 1/4 cups on a glass baking dish and bake at 350 for one hour.
The baking soda spreads out to be about 1/2" thick. Makes 1gl of solution.

Hmm, 1/2" might be better. You also can do the conversion by heating the mixture of water and sodium bicarbonate enough. I'm not sure how long it'd take, though. Maybe not long.

given the ambients right now, could cook the mixture outside ;-) but I'd be unable to ascertain the result before introducing to the system. Loathe to upset the tanks chemistry as we all know how fast things go bad vs how long to get things back on track.

Thanks all. I'll exercise the wife's oven.

If you boil it until the chemical all is dissolved, the conversion is complete. :) Baking it likely is easier, though.
