Banded pipe success

small alien

The fungus is among us.
Hey gang. I've had this animal for about 2 years. It's always been a vigorous eater. Mysis, roe and cyclopeez primarily. It's just one of those fish where you feel like it has a strong will to live. It's housed in my 75 with a lot of other pod eaters so not much naturally occurring food.

Just sharing. Cheers.

Beautiful. Do you keep the Blueline and banded in the same tank? Can you explain your feeding regime in some more detail? How large & what kind of roe and mysis? Also how often do you feed?

I have 2 male banded (thought I bought a pair :() and a Blueline in the same 140 gal mixed reef tank. Never see the Blueline during the day, it comes out at dusk (actinic only) & swims with the dominant male at the front of the tank. The subordinate male seems to stay behind the rock work during the day & will venture out to the front of the tank and spar with the dominant male at dusk and after lights out ( see thread < http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2156232 >).

Since my Bandeds' rarely eat any of the foods I add, I assume they eat the natural pods in the tank. Occasionally I will see one take frozen cyclopeez.

both are in the same tank and both are quite cryptic. The banded comes out when I feed. They are both out dawn/dusk. If I look at the tank in the middle of the night with the moonlight no, they are typically both out and often together.

I feed 1-5 times a day. Probably 2/3 mysis. Mostly PE but Hikari also. Then roe, pellets, cyclopeeze, etc. It's a lot about the individual fish.

What have you seen your banded pipe eat? Just curious. My bluestripe ate mysis and cyclopeeze and was also a fatty, but I think it ate a lot of pods, too. In fact, for the first six months I had it, I never saw it take anything I put in the tank and it was still quite chubby.

I really loved that little fish and have been tempted to try another one, or maybe a pair of Janns in my big tank.

I have seen the banded eat cyclopeeze, prawn roe, rod's coral mix, hikari mysis. Also, it ate one SA pellet once by accident I think. Really chows down on the hikari. Some PE mysis too but it's a bit big to snick.
