no, no, watch out for that powerhead!!! lol. nice, i have a drafonface in my 75 and he is quite interesting to watch. i'd love to get it a mate, but worried about the pod population.

the powerhead is on a timer and only comes on in short spurts. It hasn't been a problem and when it is on, they tend to stay lower in the tank.

They are definitely interesting to watch. The tank is on my desk and I tend to watch them more than do work. lol! I can't tell if the sex of these two. They seem to get a long very well. So I assume it's a male and female.

What's with the pod stuff? I've read in other threads people mentioning it but I'm not sure what it is.

pods are very small crustaceans that the pipefish eat. some pipefish(mine included) will only eat live foods. i have a healthy pod population in my dt and sump, but once a year i add more just to be sure. do a search for copepods. there are several different kinds. the pipefish i have has a very small mouth, so he kinda has "special needs", lol.

FWIW, several years ago, I've had a flagfin poke its head into a pump, and it got decapitated for its trouble. Nobody wishes these thing, but they do happen, and folks are just giving you a heads-up.

Pods:

copePODS
amphiPODS
isoPODS

"Pods" is an all-inclusive name for several types of minute crustaceans that Syngnathids (and most other fish) find tasty. These critters are normal parts of a tank's microfauna.

ok, I couldn't let another day go by with the powerhead plugged in. I just kept picturing my pipes with no head. :( Any thoughts what can be used to move water around without harming them?? I'm headed to the big box shop to look at options but if you recommend something it would save me the trouble. :D

I'm not familiar with your power head but usually you can find something that will provide protection at the intake so they can't poke through.
Some power heads have specific filter attachments like my Hagen 802's, but others may need a sponge over the intake, or perhaps a netting sufficient to keep the fish out but allow the smaller particulate matter to pass through.
Cleaning protocols are in order with such uses but it's better than loosing a fish.
