Bandit Angel Acting Odd??

I have had my bandit for about 5 months. Got him at 3 inches and is a bit bigger. Has been happy and eating everything that goes into the tank since about a week in.

He has always been very active. Recently, he has taken to swimming back and forth form one extreme end of the tank to the other all day, only stopping to eat when the food goes in. This evening, he is swimming so fast from one side to the other his behavior has made me a bit nervous. He looks fine and is eating normally.

No agression to or from any other fish. 180g display, 74.5 to 75 degrees, water good, nitrates a bit high, around 20.

should i be concerned?

The tank is admittedly pretty heavily stocked...and i am not planning on adding any more fish to it. the 3 inch bandit is just about the largest fish, most of them are very small, i would say the average size is 2 inches or so. They include the following:

- 4 clowns (1 2 inches and the other 3 slightlly over an inch)
- 4 tangs (1 black, 1 yellow, 1 kole and 1 purple, all zebrasomas about 2 inches except the yellow is almost 3, no agression beetween them)
- 6 anthias (2 borbonious (both around 2 to 2.5 inches, 2 bi-mac (both arround 3 inches) and 2 sunburst, each around an inch)
- 5 wrasses (2 flame, 1 lineatus, 1 melanurus, 1 black and white leopard)
- 3 butterfly (1 burges, 1 mirautus, 1 declivis, all about 2 inches)
- 1 flame hawk ( 1.75 inches)
- 4 angels (1 regal (3 inches), 1 goldflake (1.5 inches), 1 african flame angel (maybe 1 inch if that) and the bandit, probably 3.25 inches)

Tank stocked slowly over 9 months with last fish going in about a week ago, the pair of bi-mac anthias

As I said, there is no agression in the tank anywhere and the bandit in particular pays no notice to any of the other fish and no one bothers him.

Yes, I know I will need to upgrade tank size, I am hoping not for 18 months...

I should add one more thing. Since I obtained the bandit, when I occassionally look at the tank well after the lights are out, I typically see the bandit swimming around slowly, as opposed to sleeping.... that behavior has continued... he still slows way down at night but its not cleear to me if or when he sleeps....

No, I am guilty of not quarantining. I did have ICH in the tank after 6 weeks, removed everything for 10 weeks, treated all fish with copper, returned fish, and then the black tang got what I thought was ICH again, but it cleared up by itself after 2 weeks. So I probably have ICH in the tank in some latent manner. I was QT'ing but I became so disillusioned when I perceived the black tang to be sick again that I figured what is the point, plus I was getting a ton of heat from my wife over the extra tank... I was sort of feeling like I may have doged the bullet as I am now fully stocked and have no sigs of ICH, other than perhaps the funny behavior on the part of the bandit...
 
Here's an update -- and i will start a new thread in the fish disease forum -- it looks like the bandit it getting worse. The nanny called and said there is a large red spot the size of dime coming from within the fish down by the tail... almost like all the blood is collecting in one space. She said its definitely not on the outside of the skin but coming from the inside, more visible on one side than the other but visible from both sides. And he is swimming very quickly back and forth.... she is going to see if he eats and let me know, i won't be home until this evening to check things out.... could this be an internal parasite??
 
I've had it about 5 months... yes, that thread is interesting, but there are so many medications mentioned its hard to determine if it will be useful..... thanks though..
 
hmm ... sounds like either a secondary internal bacteria infection or ....

dont start with medication right now. take as many pictures as you can tonight, and post it here and also some other reputable "sites" and ppl I cant mention on here. get a positive ID first. FWIW , they dont do too well with antibiotics from the reports. try to contact Rufus, he is the main collector for these guys I think.

did he do fine during the copper treatment ?
 
I am sorry but I cant help you with ideas of what to do, I just wanted to say nice collection of angels in your tank, I have a 150 gallon tank and I have the exact same 4 angels. My Bandit is by far my favourite, my flamebck chases my goldfake a decent amount and my regal is just very relaxed and keeps to himself.

I hope you figure this out and he pulls through, good luck
 
Thanks Ray... I agree, the Bandit is my fav too! I hope he'll be ok... indications tonight seem ok... still a bit hyperactive, but eating well and the red spots have receded, to my eye... i think i need another 24 hours and some more luck and i'll report back....
